MG MGF Technical - Water Wetter
With all this talk of HGF is it safe/ advisable to use Water Wetter in an MGF. It's abviously designed to reduce engine temp but I have heard rumours of it causing the head gasket to fail. Any experience of it by anyone on here? |

Experience is anacedotal at best unfortunately. Firstly, there is a question mark over the chemicals used in water 'wetter' - it may, or it may not, react with the agents found in the antifreeze. Secondly, I recall that Graeme Bishko used some water wetter in his VVC. His car suffered from HGF some weeks later. I am not saying that water wetter WILL react with your antifreeze. Nor am I saying that water wetter WILL cause a HGF. What I am saying is that there is a hypothetical problem with this stuff (and if it is so good, why don't established manufacturers use it?), and it clearly is not a magical HGF cure. I don't use it. Nor do I have any inclination to. Whether you decide to use it is entirely up to you. |

Sound advice Rob. Regarding HGF, prevention is better than cure so I'm just going to keep a regular (DAILY!) eye on things! |

>eye on things! have a look to the thread *Overheating in traffic: radiator fan not working* opened by Rob. This might be more important to look for. Cheers Dieter |
