MG MGF Technical - Wet Carpets
Hi, can someone point me in the direction of the wet carpet fixes for the MGF. I have done a search in the archives. I have done the heater, air intake, but I believe that there are a couple of others. Thank you Brian |

Does your car have the cut outs in the bottom of the door seals? |
Dave |
No it didn't have them, but did that a few months ago when I did the heater. I just can't find the thread that told you all the fixes. Brian |

Does the car have air conditioning? Adam |

On mine the water came in through the body seams due to crappy build quality, particularly the area under the bonnet hinge. I unbolted the hinge, levered it up a bit and squirted silicon all round, then bolted it back down again. To find this leak, I drove for weeks without carpets or underfelt, but it was still really difficult to locate. |

Look for leaks between the window glass and the seals beside the door mirrors. Sam |

There is water getting in through the mirrors. i saw it today when it was raining brian |

Brian, Could be the windows need adjusting. However, try a spot of vaseline on the seal. Sam |

Is that what you use on seal's in scotland? |

Ive had this problem - water coming in from the mirrors (from where the triangular black cheater meets the A frame seal) - I tried several different 'fixes' for this but the one that really worked for me was to replace the seal (which runs from the bottom centre of the kickplate, up and over the windscreen and down to the other kickplate). The new seal was so much more supple than the 10year old one it replaced. Cured the problem in an instant! (cost £90 for the new seal). I also had a problem with water behind the drivers seat - This comes from water getting under the seal which runs around the back of the car (again from the centre of the kickplate, up and around the car where the hood rests and back round to the other kickplate). This one was cured by lifting the seal and applying a mastic sealant into the underside of the seal and pressing back down again. |
