MG MGF Technical - What battery ?
| The battery in my '96 F has finally expired. Other than a very expensive option from the Rover garage, all my local Battery specialists are quoting for a 40AH or Heavy duty 46AH battery. I believe the original is a 50AH. I know the F requires a fairly heavy duty battery due to the length of cable run. Do I need a 50AH one ? Thanks, Rob. |

| Last week I bought a Powertrain replacement battery with a 3 year guarantee from Partco for £48 including VAT. Ampere Hours (AH) are a measure of storage capacity and cable length is not relevant. |

| Volts drop across the (small) resistance of long cables on a cold morning could impinge starting ability though. If in doubt go for the high amp/hour battery. cheers |

| Some of the less clued up parts shops use their 'books' for quoting and a lot of the books only list the original non PAS battery - you want a heavy duty one if you have PAS - just take them to the car and show them your original - non-Rover will cost about £50.00 for a good one with a lifetime guarantee. | Thanks all for your comments, I'll go for a heavy duty one. Rob |

| What's a lifetime guarantee? |

Probably depends on the age of the customer ;) Carl, feeling very old today ( 55 ). |

| Hey Carl, remember you are only as old as the women you feel,LOL. Mike. |

| Carl, If you're 'very old' at 55, I'm pushing up the daisies! It's what you do & how you act that counts, like a vintage car! Tony |
