MG MGF Technical - What colour should the coolant be?
Hi Guys, I was just checking my coolant, and it appears to be slightly below the seam of the tank, so I thought I better top it up. Does the level ever drop slightly for normal reasons, or does this always indicate a definite leak? The coolant I have is red/orange in colour - is it meant to be? It has the yellow sticker around the top, meaning (according to the page stuck into my manual) with Extended Life coolant. Where's the best place to pick this up? So many questions! Thanks Andy |

Or a Texaco petrol station as Rover use Texaco Extended life coolant. Mobil 1 also produce an OAT coolant as well. |

I wouldn't mix brands of OAT antifreeze because the make up will be different - and this *could* have unpredictable effects. Therefore, I'd get some from your Rover dealer, as this seems the most likely way to avoid problems - but if it is a Texaco product, then there is no reason why you ought not buy some from this source as BPR suggests. |

Thanks Rob. How about the fact that the level has dropped slightly? Does this sometimes happen? |

My coolant is yellow in colour - do they supply them in yellow?? |

Coolant levels can appear to fluctuate slightly over time - the volume of fluid doesn't actually change - it's just distributed through the system differently (in return pipes etc). However, if the fluid level is dropping over a period of time, there is a problem there to be investigated: it's a sealed system, so coolant loss should not occur. |
