MG MGF Technical - whats the best tyre pressure for the rear tyres?

what is the best tyre pressure for the rears. will i get better rear grip if i lower the pressure a little from the recommended
richb

Er, which model and which tyres?

Some people do like to reduce the tyre pressures slightly, but check for wear on the outside edges.

its the vvc with new P6000's on

P6000's...hmmm.

I had these on my VVC, great in the dry, absolutely appauling in the wet.

Only advice, be extra careful even on damp roads.

Well a F VVC with F1's is 28psi rear, 24psi front, which I find great.

I am currently running on P7000s set at 24psi front and 28 rear, which are fine. These are not quite as good as PO3s in the wet, but IMO are the next thing. I was warned off P6000 some years ago, but haven't actually tried them.

I would not at all recommend lowering the tyre pressure to obtain more grip.
Especially in wet conditions lower tyre pressure leads to aquaplaning at lower speeds than with proper tyre pressure because the tyres capacity 'swallowing' water will be reduced.
This can obviously lead to dangerous situations.
Reducing tyre wear also increases fuel consumption.
I'm in doubt anyway whether lowering tyre pressure will have any positive impact on the grip...
