MG MGF Technical - Wheel question

It may seem a bit dumb, but I can't fathom it.
My vvc wheels have corroded badly. I have found another set, but the guy selling them says they all have 185/55s on, he reckons Fs had two options, 185s all round and didderent front/rear(Baloney!).
Is he selling 4 front wheels, or do the wider rear tyres fit the same rims?
Ddraig

The wheels are all the same size it's the tyres that are different. Mk I Mpi and VVC and Mk II Mpi MGFs all came with 185 on the front and 205 on the rear. The Mk II VVC came with 215s all round. Not sure about the Trophy I think that it might have been 185 on front and 215 on rear. A well known sprint car ran 185 all round and it didn't do it any harm as it had a habit of winning. I suspect that the previous owner fitted 185s all round because it would be cheaper and they probably didn't know any different.
David Clelland

I suspected that was the case.
I've got newish 205's on my current rears, should be able to switch em as two of the ones he is selling are on the wear bars.
Ddraig

Oops, how rude.
Thanks, David.
Ddraig

The original mk1 15" vvc wheels will not take a tyre wider than 205. Don't know about the trophy or early mpi though.

Trophy has 16" wheels (7.0J X 16) with 195/45 tyres on front and 215/40 on rear.

>>The wheels are all the same size it's the tyres that are different.<<

Just to clear a point. I meant that the wheels fitted on a particular car are all the same size :-) There are of course different 15" (6J 15) and 16" (7J 16) versions fitted to different models.

vvc wheels must be bad for corrosion, mine have gone too. Ddraig, didn't you consider getting your current wheels refurbished rather than buying a new set off ebay?
Leigh

As I had nearly new tyres I had two wheels refurbished rather than buy second hand wheels when corrosion led to tyres deflating.

It cost £40 per wheel and they are like new.

Brian Highe

I think the standard 15" 5-Spoke VVC wheels are cheaper to buy off ebay than get refurbished. I bought a set of 4 in good nick for only £80. :)
