MG MGF Technical - Where can I take the the beast???
Okay, Milton Keynes and Rotherham are a little too far to go for a trusted mechanic who know their way around a VVC. Can anyone recommend a garage further south who knoe one end of a camshaft to the other - and who isn't afraid of the restricted access?? Wanna get this VVC timing sorted so I can start playing with Induction kits and exhausts. |

Hi Pete, Have a look at this thread. It may help? It's just at the bottom of the technical section below this one. HTH, Kris. http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=thread&access=&subject=69&source=T&thread=200511200835244382 |

In particular, the comments about Hilton Motors looks promising. |

Just spoke to Hilton Motors. Got the impression they weren't too keen on playing with VVC engines. Maybe they're just busy. :o( |

Oh! :( Sorry about then. I haven't used them myself, just heard good things about them. Back to the drawing board! :) |

Hi Pate, Is Bath too far? There's 2 guys who used to work for the MG Rover garage but have set up their own just outside Bath. I'm not too sure on the name of the garage but there's another guy who comes on here who recommended them in the first place. If you're interested, I'll see what info I can find for you. Sallie |

Hi Sallie, No - Bath isn't too far. Pass through bath 2-3 times a week on my way to Bristol. Any info would be really appreciated!! - Thanks |

Sallie Would you let me know the details of the Bath boys as well please? I have a HGF to be fixed asap. Thanks Berni |

Sallie - do pass on the info please! The guy who currently looks after my F and ZS at the one of the local MGR dealers is one of the 'old school' mechanics - definitely NOT a technician. BUT he's retiring soon and I'll need to find somewhere else....... Thanks Mike H |

Bernie How far are you prepared to travel? Is Stroud too far north? Mike H |

Hi, I've been checking the archives hoping to find the info on this garage just outside Bath. Can't find it so hoping the person who originally put the details on this site will come along soon. Maybe need to start a thread up with the title "Garages around Bath" He might see it then!! Sorry I can't be of much more help :-( Sallie |

Here we go. I knew if I searched long enough I'd find it. Posted 26 January 2005 at 12:47:05 UK time John Thomas, Bath, j.s.thomas@bath.ac.uk Two of the most experienced staff from a local dealership are going independent at the end of January. One, Chris Fogden, has worked on F's since 1995 and has my personal recommendation. They are setting up in a somewhat rural location - 18 Meadgate, Camerton near Bath Multimap BA2 0NW Tel 01761 470416 Hope this helps Sallie |

Mike Going to Stroud will put the cost up even more as car needs to be transported and the garage where it's presently at will deliver FOC in Bristol (might be able to persuade them on Bath). I usually take it to 2 gentlemen in Bristol that used to work for a Rover dealer, and obviously they are cheaper than any dealer. They can't start on it immediately and they've been scaring me with tales of possible corrosion and pittng they may find once they investigate. I'm keen to get it sorted asap (not keen on buses) and thought worth checking out other garages that are recommended. Sallie - thanks for the info, I remember meeting John Thomas years ago when I used to go to MG meetings and gymkanas, and he used to really rate the staff at the Rover dealer in Bath. Pete - sorry to muscle in on your slot :-) |
