98 was the changeover year. There is not a changeover VIN number. The manual tensioner has 23mm wide belt and the Auto 26mm. Geoff F. |

Sorry, forgot to say the car is a mpi not vvc. Geoff, you are quite right, thats exactly whats baffling me. Do i get the auto tensioner or am i just going to have to take the cover off and see whats already on there? |

I reckon the safest is to remove the cover and see what you already have. Chances are that it'll be manual, but no guarantee. |

Just for your interest, I have just had a '99 F in the workshop for it's first belt change. It was fitted with the 'wide' belt 143 x 26mm and the manual tensioner..... :-) There is also a 145 tooth x 26mm belt listed for the non VVC engine....! I make a point now when getting these in for work, NOT to pre order parts but to wait and see whats there.... However, I am now stocking more and more parts for the F and TF. Mark. |

There are three belts Manual tensioner.. 143 teeth 23mm wide : 1400,1600 and 1800 143 teeth 26mm wide : late 1400 and 1600, all 1800/VVC Auto tensioner,, 145 teeth 26mm wide : all auto tensioner models If yours is a manual tensioner and it is highly likely that it is, then fit the VVC belt, 143 teeth x 26mm wide. It is a direct fit and is a little tougher than the narrower belt. Dave |
