MG MGF Technical - While driving,is shifting to'R' blocked?
Hi, I have a simple question as I belief. I recently bought a MGF. As I am not used to "right hand seater" I shifted almost in "R" (reverse) instead of the 4th gear. I remarked that the "R" is not really blocked, but makes only some sizzling noise when trying to get into that gear while moving forward. Is this right or is something broken? Thanks for some comparison. cal |

No, it is not blocked, that is the sound of the gears grinding...!! |

Cal, as in any manual gearbox selecting reverse whilst going forwards at any speed is not recommended, if it didn't go sizzzzzzzz (gears not meshing), but selected reverse instead you may have met with a severe accident. So this is normal, nothing broken. Mike |

but 5th to reverse is blocked IIRC |

Nah, cos my wifey did it the other day - she has got six gears on her Celica!! :-O |

Thanks for the answers. Of course I did not engage :() the reverse or force it further. It just started sizzle and I immediately knew that I was "slightly" to far to the right. Just wondered if there is blocker, so that it is impossible to engage R. Happy to hear that everything is OK. cal |
