MG MGF Technical - Whine through speakers

I should know the answer to this, but I don't. :-(
Recently started to get a high pitched whine through the speakers which is matched to engine RPM. I can guess where this is coming from and can guess that the suppression is a bit broken.

However, I don't know how to fix it. :-(
Can anyone help?
Where is the suppressor? Do they simply break like this?

Cheers,
Paul.

Paul, did you tried to fit an antiparasit filter in the +12 volts wire of the cd/cassette?
Is very cheap and maybe it works!

Could be a sign of HT leads on the way out, how old are they?
Supressors are generally fitted anywhere motor noise gets ont the 12v line, so for ignition noise - between the +ve on the coil(s) and ground, for other RPM noise between +ve (out) on the alternator and ground.

What programme are you listening to? Have you changed to an AM channel because the reception on AM is not good in an MGF. Mine has problems from the Alarm ECU interfering with the reception on AM even with the ignition off!

If it's happening when playing CD/Tapes etc then you may need some investigation work as suggested above. If the whine is high pitched then it is probably alternator problems but if it is low and scratchy then it is ignition interference.

A very good point, I find a lot of Radio 4 programs are quite whiney, middle england complaining about how people haven't grown out of pop music and thats why classical music is failing, was one which paticulaly annoyed me.

Never managed to get wine outa my speakers, although I did get a pint of stella once!

HT leads are only 18 months old.

It's happening with the minidisc as well and is independant of the volume setting.
<thinks> Thus it's interference hitting the speaker wire as it's not being amplified?

Will/SC: Nice comments. <grin>

The whine didn't creep in. It just sorta happened.
Will check to see if I can find the supressor(s) and see if it's simply become detatched.

Will also dig around the speaker cable area (I have components with crossover) and see if I can narrow this down.

Thanks for the help so far guys!
