MG MGF Technical - Whitch Unlead fuel should I pu in (UK & Irland)

Hello guy,

As you know I'm leaving in 2 weeks for 2 weeks holidays in Irland...

Say that I'm wondering how The fuel to put in the MGF is call in those two contry... In France we put Unlead 95 (different from unlead 98).....

I'know, I've already ask this question a couple of year ago, for my trip in Scoland, but I forgot :(

So is it Unlead Regular, Premium, whatever ????

Are the name, the same in Irland and England...

And important Is the fuel less expensive in Irland, England, France (€/liter ???). In France it's 1€/liter.

'premium unleaeded', or just unleaded, super or optimax will not cause you any problem but it is more expensive.

Maxime, price of petrol here in London is currently running at 1.13 euro per litre. It varies somewhat around the country - but will tend to be more expensive than what you're used to. :o(

Not sure about Irish petrol prices?
Rob Bell

Thanks you both...

Another question :

Here in France we use to buy petrol at super-store, but in UK, I remeber that people people prefer to go to a brand petrol station. Is there a quality issue ???

> Is there a quality issue ???
used to be, but I don't think there is much between them now. I
n general the big petrol stations are run by BP, Texaco, Esso etc.
there are others like Q8, Jet, etc. which are suposedly lower quality, but I doubt you will notice,
Supermarkets Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys sometimes have petrol, but it is of 'unknown' origin, in that they buy it from the cheapest supplier at the time, which might be BP, might be Jet.
Prices are pretty much of a muchness, but Esso tent to be slightly cheaper in 'premium' spots because the price match on distance from location (so a station on a sliproad to a motorway will match one hidden away and therfore drive the price lower).
The service stations in supermarkets is a fairly new thing (last 5/10 years?) so there are a lot of independant petrol stations about.

Oh and I don't know about which 'names' are in Ireland (I keep meaning to go but haven't yet got round to it)

I normally buy my fuel at a super-store near home. If I'm out I buy it when I need it. At home I save 12p / litre at super-store when my wife has shopped. Have never noticed a quality issue - both the F and the Triumph (2 wheels) are happy with most fuel. I once wasted my money on Optimax but could feel no difference.

I guess some petroleum experts will have thoughts.

>Have never noticed a quality issue
I can't remember who told me... but I understand that there is lightly to be more diffrence between a petrol stations own quality between almost out of fuel and just after a new delivery than between the diffrent brands.

BTW petrol stations used (i think still do) have a lifetime of 20 years before the tanks are deemed to be in such bad condition that they are not allowed to be used anymore, the ground is contaminated and is not saleable for houses so a lot of these defunkt stations turn into car garage forcourts. The tanks can be replaced but the process is very costly (presuabley because of the contaminated earth). Does anyone know how supermarkets are going to get around this?*

Will
*whilst finishing this sentance I realized that they would probebly move it to another place in the car park and tarmac over the original, damn I hate talking to myself

Interesting comment as our local superstore was originally a garage. The garage was built and the tanks installed in the Mid 50's, over the years it has transformed from a garage through a garage with a food store attached to a fully blown superstore (Co-op) still selling fuel. I only remember the tanks being changed once, this was at the last refurbishment to a superstore, I maybe wrong but I thought that the tanks were just replaced in their original position. Incidentally there are 2 ex garage sites locally that have grown houses in the last 5 years.
