MG MGF Technical - Why did they build the F around the heater?

Despite being part of a top quality, highly engineered, value for money car of which the British motor industry can be proud, the fan speed control on my F has decided to call it a day after the admittedly excessively long service of a staggering four and a half years from new. Beat that you German and Japanese scoundrels!
Now, being a flagship of British engineering the F is well known for ease of access and well-thought out design, so I am stumped as to why the screws that hold the offending fan control in the dash are hidden behind a piece of trim. To remove this piece of trim means removing the bloody seats, oh and the brake lever surround....and the radio head unit....and the electric window switches. All that for a fan control that should never have failed in the first place.
Nice one Rover.
YOU ARE BLOODY CHIMPS.
Have a f***ing banana.
Just another unfortunate F owner

Oooooook.

If you bother searching the archives you will see that the fan speed control you refer to is just a resistor which you can access very easily through the foot well. You don't have to remove any trim. It can be fixed by changing the resistor pack which costs a few pennys.

And one day You will discover that it is around the handbrake cables the car is built, not the fan control. That one was just a teeser ! ;)

Yes, really. The problem is that they rely on clamping the cables just like on the gearshift cables. And we know what happends there... Didnīt really use much force - the clamped part on left cable just snapped a few weeks ago. Didnt bother too much but with MoT ahead just as well to fix it. No shortage of spareparts over here yet - got it within a week.

Regards , Carl.

,,and anyway, you can get through the centre console with out removing seats etc. Slightly on-thought out approach?
