MG MGF Technical - Wind deflector

Has anyone made their own wind deflector? Can't be too hard. Any information available?

Hi Stuart,
there is one option - to use a nylon fabric sunshade net on a type of selfwinding roll. (Hard to explain in English) You can see it on Dieters Tech Site. It works fine even up to 200 km/h althou not the most fancy one !

Windstop tests @ http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/windstop_data.htm

Newton Commercial (aka Classic Additions) costs about 160 + quid

Some really clever DIY adaptions about - including those on Dieter's site (love Thomas' sun blind windstop :o) I also have some pictures of how Jon made his perspex retractable windstop, which I'll host shortly :o)

I made a windstop for my MGF a few days ago. Rob Bell is going to make a feature on it on his website.

Nothing complicated, really. Just a piece of perspex with sufficient fixing brackets on it. I made a half-frame in which the shield can be raised and lowered, allowing adjustment for wind protection.
I utilised the press studs on the T-bar as fixing points in addition to velcro strips attaching the frame to the carpet above the engine cover.

Been working on those images today Jon... will get something sorted shortly! :o)

The windstop opened a completely different world. It was a new experience to me. I never had one in the open-roofed cars I have owned previosly (Renault Caravelle, Suzuki SJ413, MGB).
Now I can drive in comfort in freezing temperatures and all it took was an evening of fettling.
Strongly recommended!

Will, it is actually an original idea from Thomas O. You will find it at Dieters Tech .Site. Look at the left side menue, rather far down at Windschott 1 / Windstop 1. Description is in German but the pictures at the bottom will tell the whole story....

if you want another alternative try RSwe777@aol.com. this is an American version which velcro's around the head rests - Bob advises that they have a version which will fit the MGF. Found their web site in the archives. Faxed them yesterday out of interest and an email within 24 hours.

May also give you a DIY incentive

I very quickly put some of the pictures that Jon sent me onto the web site: see http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/jons_windstop.htm

I need to work on the text a bit, but the images do the 'talking' here... :o)
