MG MGF Technical - window lift

ok i have located the source of my problem, but haven't a clue how to fix it.

took photo's but due to restricted access they don't show much.

so here's an equally vague description.

the window lift operates like a pair of scissors, with one end fixed and the other end running along a rail.

i checked the runner, and all seems ok.

however the fixed end has been damaged, and the metal pin that secures the "scissor" to the plastic component on the runner has bent, and distorted the plastic.

the scissor arm also seems slightly bent.

Any ideas on how to replace this???
How difficult, and how expensive??

All help much appreciated.

Thanks

Not fair!

Try B&G, Mike Satur, you know, the usual suspects.....

Paul,

Don't give him the pounds! You'll need them to buy a new window regulator. They changed the part number on these but I don't know when. The good news is they are now in stock at MGR if you want a new one (don't know how much - mine was a warranty job). However there was a guy on eBay selling regulators and motors last week to fit an R reg F. It may be worth looking to se if this is still available.

BTW, MGF centre quoted £75 plus vat and postage when I was looking to get one for the TF the other week, before I heard the parts problem was being resolved.

As an aside, what would happen if your window glass were to get broken - would autoglass only replace the window, or replace the glass and make sure that it all worked properly for your £50 insurance excess?

Hope this helps,

its the tiny yellow plastic bit that has been damaged.

think it would be pretty easy to remove bent rivet, repair plastic and put another rivet in.

will try and remove the regulator tonight, and see if any repair can be made.

£75 doesn't sound bad, compared to the price i just got quoted from Rover.

I thought that I had the same problem as Paul but managed to lower the mechanism after disconnecting from the glass. After removing the mechanism seems it seems OK. My problem appears to be that the glass wont go down at all, even though disconnected from the mechanism. Any help would be appreciated. The only consolation is that the window is permanantly closed, not open.

I didn't get chance to look at mine at the weekend.

Got a bit carried away, and ended up spendin the whole weekend driving the car instead ;-)

Managed, after many hours, to get the window to work but never discovered the cause. I suspect that the problem was at the top of the guide rail where there is a "stop" which prevents the window from rising too high. All of this was hidden by the inner body skin as the window seized whilst fully closed. Took all the bits apart using guess work, put them together, and it works perfectly. Beware a major problem when re-assembling as it all needs adjusting to get the window to fill the apperture when closed.
