MG MGF Technical - Window problem
Hi there Sorry to have been quiet for such a long time. Hope you are all well. Problem: a few days ago I nticed that my passenger seat was soaked - rain. On inspection found that the passenger window is winding up too far so that on closing it is outside the roof weather strip. Hope that makes sense? The question: What has gone wrong? Hope you can help Kind regards David |

Hi David, Sounds suspiciously like a broken window stop. Its an easy task to change (just a bit fiddly). You should be able to find instructions by searching the archives but I also think that they may be on Rob Bells site and possibly on Scarlets too. The only thing to be careful of is that you get the new two part stop and not the old plastic one part stop that breaks so often. Hope this helps. Regards, Ian |

I agree Ian - if the window is winding up too far then this is almost certainly the notorious broken window stop. Good news is it is cheap and easy to fix. David, I had to do this last year (ended up getting 2 new window stops and doing both sides as the other side would have broken eventually). I've sent some instructions with pix to your e-mail address on how to do this. Budget about half an hour for each door. Hope this helps Jim |

A quick check for this one, is if you lower the window with the door closed and the raise it, it will sit properly. However when you then open the door and close it again it will sit on the outside of the A post seal. |

Some of the newer visitors to this site may find the window adjusting section on http://apttony.co.uk helpfull. Tony has put together a really good 'group help' site with claer info, onstructions and lists of part numbers. Rob Bell also has a very usefull site at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/ with more DIY notes and help screens. Sorry if I've missed out other help sites - over the past 20 months I've found so many usefull links. Whoops - almost forgot Dieter http://www.lame-delegation.de/mgf-net.de/index.htm Whoops - almost forgot Scarlet!! |
