MG MGF Technical - Window stop thingey broken

Well I suppose it had to happen one day

I have a very early F and the window on the driver's side seems to go up too far when wound up.

I know that this was a prob on early f's but I wasnt afflicted with this... until now

OK guys what's the story? what do I do?

...door cards...i am not looking forward to the levering cracking breaking ripping experience of pulling the trim off a door no matter how precise and careful youare

aaaarrrg!

If you get this then you haven't removed the screws!
Removing the trim is very easy, refitting is a bit more difficult. There are some poppers along the very bottom of the door, and it is hooked over at the top (so lifts off) When replaceing make sure the window is at least a little up, or you will end up tucking the glass behind the card (very annoying! speeks experence)

Ok Thanks but where and which bit needs replacing?

Neil

I'll leave that to someone who -hang on, touch errm plastic covered chipboad- actually has had one fail.

There's an article in the MGF/TF FAQ concerning the replacement of broken window stops - look under the DIY section. :)

A special tool to remove the trim is available from Draper for £4.07 on their website, http://www.drapertools.com . The stock number is 19193.

Bah, use your fingers!

Just done my passenger side (it was 6 years old).
I didn't use any special tools - just some patience and the guide from the FAQ (as above). Parts cost 2pound66p. The door trim goes back without problems.
Had some fun in the parts dept when the storeman brought out a wind-stop instead (and I had taken off my helmet and earplugs before asking). Full part numbers are in the FAQ.

Niel I have a replacement window stop in my kitchen drawer at home I brought it for mine when my window got wedged in the closed position but it turned out it was just jammed. I have no use for it now and it didn't cost a great deal its yours if you want it drop me an e mail.

Cheers,

My TF160 (2002) has just suffered from this problem...so it's not just the early cars!
I will be getting it fixed under warranty, but Paul's excellent DIY section would have allowed me to do it quite easily, had I been out of warranty time

I really cannot take any credit for the article in the FAQ, other than having it on the site I suppose. Credit for the technical stuff goes to Richard Eaton. ;-)
