MG MGF Technical - Windscreen cracked -MGF 97-
I have just noticed a crack appear in my F´s windscreen. It is 'J shaped' about 4 inches long and located in front of the mirror. there is evidence of a stone impact in the upper part. Do any of you people know how difficult -and expensive- is get it replaced? Any special advise about?. PB |

Simple - you will probably have glass cover in your car insurance - pay £50-£60 glass excess have a coffee and wait whilst the professsionals supply & fit it for you either at their depot or as most do nowadays at your place of work or home. |

I have replaced the F windsreen twice. It is somewhat more fragile than in other cars. Quite messy procedure and you will end having leakage problems and the glueing of the mirror is a problem too. Good luck. |

The screen on my F was replaced on insurance and they made a total pigs ear of it. Took them about 3 goes, 2 screens and a lot of complaining from me. In the end they had to take it to their depot to do it. Tim. |

My F's screen suffered a crack that was difficult to see - it was behind the tax disc - I took it to my local autoglas depot and had the window changed on the insurance. They did a good job, no problems with leaks, or rear view mirror and the guy even told me to take out the booster seat, just in case, although I didn't find any glass fragments in the car. |

It is quite a messy job and the results are often poor in terms of leakage, new cracks and even the new screen coming off after a bump. If the damage has not extended and can be repaired I would recommend to keep the original. MG´s windscreen being specially fragile I agree -but then it is a fragile car all around- |
