MG MGF Technical - Windscreen wipers not working
Windscreen wipers just stopped working, could it just be a fuse? Anything I should look for? |

The linkage can fail. Remove the large black plastic cover under the bonnet and check it out. |

but check the fuse first as it's soooo much easier. |
John Ponting |
If the fuse - or anything electrical - you won't be able to hear the motor when the wipers are switched on. It's usually quiet-running when it is working, so you'll need to open the bonnet and get your ear up close to the motor to be sure... |

If its the linkage, which it looks like has the wiper blades are at different angles on touching the other, can the linkage be repaired if not cost of a new one? |
jim kenny |
Repairs appear to be short lived - the linkage simply pops apart again. Replacement with new (or good second hand) is straightforward. Mike Satur also retails an upgraded linkage kit. Which ever option suits your requirements/ budget :o) |

The wiper motor on mine filled with water and stopped working. Took it off (long job), took it apart, dried it in the oven and reassembled. Still working 1 year later. |

The linkage has gone on the wipers, the ball and socket joint has popped out on the bar to the wiper blade on the drives side and the right side ball and socket at the motor. Is there an easy way to pop the right side ball and socket back in, the left side one just pops straight back, does not look like a tight fit though? Or is it a case of just ordering a new mechanism? |

Buy a new one. Once it has popped out and you re-fit it will do it again only quicker. |

Mike Satur sells an upgraded linkage. I fitted one a week ago. Needed an angle grinder to get the old linkage apart then simply bolted the new one on. It's a lot sturdier design than the original. By the way are you sure the motor itself is ok - it seems a bit odd for two of the balljoints to have gone at the same time? Mark |

Yes motor is ok, why did you have to use an angle grinder, Mark, I thought it was the whole mechanism that you replace looking at the photo on the Mike Satur web site? |

I haven't seen the photo on Mike's web site but the bits he sent me were just part of the linkage-not an entire linkage. Basically I got the two arms that go from the motor to the wiper and had to replace the originals with these and the nuts and bolts he supplied. The originals are riveted on and neeed to be ground off. Wasn't a particularly difficult job but not the simple straight swap I was expecting. Mark. |

I've got a floppy one as well now! SWMBO rang earlier to say the nearside one had stopped moving. Is it a case of removing the plastic bulkhead cover in the front boot and re-attaching the ball joint? It seems to be a temp fix from what I hear, first chance to test what remains of our warranty for a new one! |

I had the same problem and I had to get a new linkage....cost £75! Work fine now. Dolly |

Popped it back on last night, lets see how long that lasts as it was pretty loose. For others doing this you don't actually have to remove the cover panel(at least not on a TF)as you can get at it through the hole by the clutch reservoir - I discovered this after taking said cover off, Doh! |
Tony |
Mike Satur is doing a deal at the moment £35 for the linkage including postage although they charged me full price but assured me that I will get a refund. Thanks for the help and advice everyone. |
