MG MGF Technical - Windstop, fitting instructions
MY MG wind stop has arrived today. I bought it from a breakers yard for £50, fair price I think but it has no instructions. Its a black tubular frame with mesh center, complete with 2 plastic blocks and 2 longish allen bolts. Where do said bolts go? |
BEN |
Ben, The bolts go into captive nuts underneath the plastic T bar behind the seats. You'll probably have to remove this panel to make sure the nuts and there. There may even be knock-out holes already moulded in the panel. Sam |

Here's some in Dieters site that may be handy... http://www.mgfcar.de/windstop/ As Sam says, you "should" be able to make out where the holes should go if you look very closely at the top of the t-bar each end.... Chris |

Thanks, just what I was after. |
BEN |
Ben, You can print the template page from Dieters site and use that to line up. Can you please email me or post the measurements of your windstop? I am thinking of making my own sometime in the future.. Thanks. Branko. |

Thanks for the link to the Workshop Manual. I hope my ambition doesnt exceed my ability, otherwise I'll be towing my F down to the garage in bits. I will keep an eye out for the leather MG folder, I misunderstood what you were after, I thought you meant a workshop manual. Cheers Ben |

Ben, Your welcomen! (as Dieter would say?). and thanks for your tips. I'm patient, one will come my way eventually. These are actually made of plastic look-a-like leather, but real leather would be nice. Join up,it free and you'll get more out of the BBS like search's, adds, etc. And sounds like you'll be here for a while. The search function is invaluable as it gives you loads of info and previous "been there done that" experiences. Great for getting real info from real nice people. Cheers. Branko. |

Hello Branko. Took your advice and Im now a member. Not to keen on the windschott on ebay, believe it or not the MG one looks a much better design. The templates that I got off dieters site were good, but I couldnt manage to print it straight off the pc. I had to keep rescaling it, printing it and measuring. I wasted about 20 sheets of paper, just aswell he put the dimensions on. Im off to raid the archives to see if I can sort me windows out. They are fine with the hardtop on, but with the softtop, they go up to high and leave a 5mm gap on the drivers side(wet ar*e). When you sit in the car and put the windows up you get a good seal but cant open the doors!. The manual I downloaded shows how to adjust the glass, but Im after photos> Cheers Ben |

Ben, look here for images on that matter. http://www.mgfcar.de/window/window_rattle.htm I'd suggest to starting a new thread. The window adjustment is nearly the most difficult and confusing works. Lots of to verify before you start. - door alignment - window stops - make year of hardtop - make year of the MGF (window shape changed) etc.. CU Dieter |

Danke Dieter. I will start a new thread tomorrow, im going out later so it would be a waste of time doing it tonight. I used to live in Gutersloh-westphalia, there was an MG garage nearby and it was always busy. At least you Germans know a great car when you see one,not like us Brits. Tcheuss(spelled wrong?) Ben |

Ben, welcome to the BBS.! I'm sure you will get (and give) lots of useful and helpful info. cheers, Branko. |

Ben, Some info from Tony's site for adjusting windows - http://www.apttony.co.uk/Servicing/GlassAdjust.html |

Fitted the windstop this morning and its gleaming!, it makes such a difference. Ive had a look at my windows and will have to leave them until tomorrow. Its the roof that needs adjusting more than the windows. The pillars to the rear of the windows is pushing them out. I need a massive posi screwdriver to adjust them, Im in danger of rounding the screw with the little screwdrivers Ive got. Cheers Ben |
BEN |
Ben, If you have taken any pics, please send some. or upload somewhere so we can see the the results. Cheers, Branko. |

I still cant get my Digicam to work on the computer. Everytime I plug in a USB device the PC just freezes, so you will have to wait for the pics Branko. Had a quick go at removing the door panel so I could adjust the windows, but i think I'll leave it until the weekend when weather improves. Is there supposed to be a clear plastic sheet on the door frame? Cheers Ben |
Ben |
>Is there supposed to be a clear plastic sheet on the door frame? Of course. And don't damage, but re-adher in place where it was. Some extra water resistant tape might be useful. |

Hello Sorry Ken Ive been away for the weekend, Ive sent you an Email to explain. Branko My mate reckons it was a virus that was messing up my USB ports, he has fixed it, but to get images from my camera I have to shutdown the PC,plug in the camera and hope its recognised on startup. If its not recognised I have to switch off and try again. Its a real pain. Cheers Ben |
Ben |
Ben, Depending on what operating systen you have, you could try to remove the USB ports from control panel and reboot, it should then self discover and install new files. Cheers, Branko. |
Branko |
Cheers Branko Im using XP, I will give it a go. Ben |
