A good squirt of WD40 in to the locks is ggod preperation for the winter. |

NOOOOOO WD40 is not an oil the WD means WATER DISPERSANT (SP?) What you want is graphite or lock oil, this is not oil as such but graphite powder and doesn't attract dirt and won't dry out the grease from the lock (as WD40 will). That said it is not incredably easy to get hold of, your 'local' hardware shop (not superstore - the type of shop that would sell you four candles) will stock it as will any real locksmith (not key cutter) |

Four candles surely you mean fork handles? |

If the locks have frozen then there is water in them. So the WD40 can do its job and disperse the water. You can then apply your magic powder. However WD40 does claim lubrication as one of its 5 basic functions. http://www.wd40.com/Brands/wd40_faqs.html |

WD40 is a light lubricating/penetrating oil isn't it? Thanks for that link Steve :o) Nice to know that Norm Larsen got it right on the 40th attempt! LOL |

Yep, but it desolves anything thicker - so locks with grease on the back (not in the lock - thats bad too) will be penetrated and the grease disolved. |
