MG MGF Technical - Wooooooooo-eeeeeeeeeee!

Oh my, who'd've thought driving a rear wheel drive motor would be sooooo much fun in the snow?

Right, Little Boy Racer banished!

I've developed (since getting the hydragas repumped) a bit of a knocking noise from between the front wheels (I think). It only happens during fast cornering.

I seem to remember my F mech mentioning that a couple of bushes were on their way out at last service...? I'm a little reticent about forking out the Stg£200 for the kit if it's summut else (though she probably needs 'em... 8 y/o motor).

Comments as always appreciated,

Don't get much chance to do that over here, but would recomend fitting polyurathane bushes. I did twelve months ago on my 98 100000km VVC and noticed huge improvments.

At first check the ball joints condition at the lower arm and steering rod end, ... b4 you upgrade.

Thanks lads... will check BJs, TREs and bushes at the weekend (if it ever stops raining).

The TREs were replaced 6ish months ago, so I hope it ain't them.

Dieter, just checked out:

The word "creaking" is a much better word to describe what I'm hearing ;-) Ta!

Hi, all,

An update. It's finally stopped raining, very cold though.

Seems that the o/s AR bush is *gone*! There *is* a tiny amount of vertical movement in the o/s front wheel (when it's jacked), though I think it's negligable, the BJs seem intact. The n/s is fine.

Am going to try to source the AR bushes separately from the 200 note kit.

Thanks again for your help,
Col

PS Oh, and I sheared off the two little bars inside the locknut adapter. Bound to get a puncture now since I cannot get the wheels off ;-( Cha-ching (again)

D'oh! It always happens... you can probably thank your local branch of Qwik Bodge for that Colin :o(

Regarding bushes, I suspect that the most readily available will actually be polyurethane: as you say, rubber will tend to come part of a whole assembly. But if you're able to source separately, could you post the part number?

Cheers
Rob Bell

Rob,

Brown & Gammons, bless 'em, sell the polyurethane bushes separately. Here's the p/n's for the anti roll bushes (front and back):

BGF9103 - FRT ANTIROLL BAR BUSH (PAIR)
BGF9108 - REAR ANTI ROLL BAR BUSH (PAIR)

Will take some photos/notes of the process if you're interested, for your website.

Nice one Colin - and yes please for the pix and any words you can put together to accompany them?

Cheers
