MG MGF Technical - Workshop manual

I bought a "workshop manual" from eBay this week.
bit of a rip off as it turns out to be clearly a photocopy. cost me £30! I wish Haynes would give up trying to be a museum curator and go and make a manual for the F and save us all the heartache!!!!!!

>>...turns out to be clearly a photocopy.<<
The standard one is a bit like that. If the diagrams are clear then nothing's lost.
Wish someone would start to offer the CD-ROMs.

The CD might be good for playing with on dark and wet night BUT the actual loose leaf manual is far better.

You can take the pages out that you require - put them into platic sleeves - and have them with you when working on the car, very quick and easy reference and the plastic sleeve keeps them nice and clean.

I agree, Ted.

I just hope that there's a lot more information on CD-ROM. My bike w/s manual contains far more useful information - eg routing information for cables, brake pipes - just about anything you would need in your workshop.
I'd prefer to have it *all* on CD/DVD and print the pages as required. I can always print pages.

I suspect that it is the ability to readily reproduce pages, time and time again, that may be providing the disincentive for producing the workshop manual in CD-ROM form :o(

Still, I have the original version (thanks to Richard 'LED' Eaton - cheers mate! :o)) and as Steve rightly says, it could be easily reproduced by photocopying and you'd be none-the-wiser.

If anyone wants to loan me a copy, I'll scan the lot and put the whole thing on disc for anyone who wants it

Stu - no problems. I shall spend the morning here at the office doing boring "post month end" IT things.
JohnP

Let scanning commence :-) Purely for private research purposes, of course.
David

I'd kill for the opportunity to get a manual for my TF! MG is a 'boutique' brand down here, and there is no alternative to MG/Rover for just about anything, its cheaper for me to freight stuff from the UK than it is to get it locally....
Mark

Stu,
Well offered! I have one on my Xmas list, but it does not arrive would you be my Santa? ;-)

Hello STU, you may have read my thread on the MGF-General site...the one about the engine falling off!! I'm from Malaysia and there are no official MG garages around. In fact, the MG franchise holder/importer is no longer in business. So, I am desperately in need of a copy of the MGF workshop manual. Please send me an e-mail if you agree. Either a hard or soft copy works for me. And I'll reimburse you for cost incurred. Thank you in advance.

p/s: my postal address is No.9, Jalan Timur, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor DE, Malaysia. Thanks a million!!
AG Seow

Are you gonna scan the MGR copyright clause too?
MG

Who cares about the © claues.
Gee

Santa?
Ted Newman

ha ha ha Ted. i love to have a manual for my 1996 VVC. This car is a pain to do anything on it. i love it to bits but theres always some niggling fault on it. It might be time to sell it i think.
gee

There are six separate manuals for the MGF with variations of part number in the electrical areas for two of these for pre and post 2000MY changes. The main one's main shortcoming is that it is minus the electrical circuit diagrams. On the positive front the latest 8th edition of the main manual, RCL0051ENG does essentially cover all MGFs from 1995 through to the end of production in December 2001. (Even though new MGFs have been sold throughout 2002.)

It was being discussed to provide variations of the dealer RAVE CD issues which contain all the manuals on one CD for public consumption before the BMW baleout in 2000. In recent times this has been raised again and is apparently being considered.

I just had a look on the Haynes web site and they do a manual for the MGF.

Here is the link if you are interested

Matt

Matt, it's the history of the birth and development of the F, not a workshop manual. A good read though.

Stu,
I'd very much like a soft copy of that manual.
Just hope Father Christmas has my on the "Good" list for this year.

Russell

Stu,

You had better buy in a lorry load of CDRs I can see there being a huge demand for this.

You must be a saint if you are going to stand and scan in every single page.

Good luck mate and I would like to have a look at your research when its complete, drop me an email with details and your expenses will be covered.

regards
