MG MGF Technical - Worrying about nothing...????
Hello all !!! Wonder if anyone could help me with this one !!! Over the last day or so I've noticed that when idling and driving (but more so idling) I can hear a sort of noise which can only be described as someone scratching on a piece of sandpaper. It seems to be coming from the drivers side air inlet and wondered what it can be ??? I'm pretty used to by now knowing the sound etc of the car but this just seems a bit weird ?? At a gues it sounds maybe like the belts just turning ??? Dont know whether to send it into the garage to check but wondered if anyone had any theories ?? Any comments gratefully appreciated. Cheers, Tony |

Tony, Could just be a leaf. Try removing the vent grill (two screws) and have a delve. Sam |

Thanks guys, I just hope it's not these cam followers I keep hearing about. It does'nt sound like anything to do with the suspension. Noise is coming more from inside the vent grill. It maybe a characteristic of the engine but best to get it checked out. Could it just be the noise the belts make when they are turning ???????? Tony |

Tony, Take care sticking your fingers in there, there is a meaty fan wich can activate for some minutes after the car has been switched off. |

Will, Thanks for the advice, will wait for an hour or so later when I get home !! I have been reading these threads for over a year since I got my VVC and I have the understanding, if you dont mind me saying that yourself, Rob Bell and a few others (apologies if I've forgotten you !!) seem to know an awful lot about the F !! Have you any thoughts at all to what the problem could be ??? I cringe everytime I find a problem with the car as I love it to bits ! Any comments gratefully received !! Cheers, Tony |

Hello all !! Problem discovered !! It was the belt on the alternator !!?? A touch of WD40 cured the problem initially but have since booked it to get a new one !! Thanks to all for their comments !! Seems my heading was justified !! Tony L19 TOE |
