MG MGF Technical - Wwiper Motor Wiring

Hi all,

I have to call in on your help again guys.
I just installed a "new" wiper assembly. Took most of the parts from a RHD *F*, including the engine. Now taken that I was sold a working engine, I think I it up incorrectly. I am not an electrical expert, but someone might be able to tell me what RHD engine wire colour corresponds to which LHD socket colour.

1)RHD engine socket (seen from backside):
Upper left: green
Upper Middle: Red
Upper Right: blue
Lower Left: black
Lower right: Brown

2) LHD car socket (seen from backside)
Upper left: Green - Blue striped
Upper Middle: Red - Green striped
Upper Right: black
Lower Left: Green - Grey striped
Lower right: Brown - Green striped

Didnīt find anything in the ownerīs manual on colour codes. Bummer, why did I buy the manual anyway? *LOL*
Canīt even deduct howto service properly from this pile of paper.

Thanks in advance,

greetz,
David.

Peter,

Just dashed outside (limped actually) and took a look. Colours were a little difficult underneath the bonnet but anyway I would have thought that there was no difference between RH and LH drive cars. It should just plug straight in.

RH Drive Loom RH Drive Motor

Black Green
Red/Light Green Red
Blue/Light Green Blue
Brown/Light Green Brown
Green/Slate Black

wiring diagram confirms this.
If you suspect the motor of the 'new' unit then connect a supply to Black and Blue on the motor loom. The wiper motor should run continuously (mind your fingers in the mechanism!).

Hope this helps

Sorry David, called you Peter for some reason unknown...apologies.

Bruce,

Hope "limping" outside didnīt cause you any more harm!*LOL* Thanks for the action though!
Strange, the second hand unit I received from Bromgsgrove MG doesnīt have these colour combinations, just plain colours. It is a MKI type plug, big and grey and fits straight into my existing reg ī99 unit.

Didnīt quite understand the actions to perform to induce continuous wiping?

Well Iīm of for The Netherlands for the weekend. *F*-less though. Hoped to get things working for this weekend. Didnīt seem to work out. The *F* has mysterious ways.

Hope to get it fixed by next week.

Cheers,
David.
David

Bruce,

Where did you find the wiring diagram?

Someone is gonna be realy mad at me for being late!!

Cheers,
DAvid.
David

Hi,

see the pictures from my MK2 >MK1 connector conversion as well.
http://www.mgfcar.de/wiper/index.htm

Recall plain colours only on the motor side of both.

Colour code of the wiper connector is for both (MK1/MK2) and equal at RHD/LHD

1-LG - lightgreen (switch off to ground)
2-R - red (- power speed 1)
3-U - blue (- power speed 2)
4-N - brown (switch common to MFU)
5-B - black (+ power)

David,

Sorry the BBS took out all the spaces in my table.

Try again...

RH Drive Loom...............RH Drive Motor

Black Green.................Green
Red/Light Green.............Red
Blue/Light Green............Blue
Brown/Light Green...........Brown
Green/Slate.................Black

Hope that worked

Diagrams can be purchased from a Rover Dealer.

I was also trying to explain that if you wish to test the motor you can connect a supply to the Black and Blue wires of the motor unit and it should run. It doesn't matter which way round you connect the wires to test it. Say, connect the Black to -ve and the Blue to 12volts +ve, the motor should run.

Phew, just got back from rainy Holland.

Dieter, from what you wrote, I figure, plugging in a motor that comes from a RHD to a LHD connector should work without the need to interchange cables?

Bruce, Iīll have to check if I didnīt buy an equally broken engine. Sounds pretty straight forward what you wrote.

Is there anything else besides a broken wiper engine, a blown wiper fuse or wrong wiring that can cause it to malfunction (electrically !)

Thanks,
David.
David

David,
not sure about RHD + LHD mechanical differences, though the diagrams show nothing special due to the connections.
Dieter Koennecke

Dieter,

the only mechanical difference between RHD AND LHD was the central bearing rod that holds the hinging mechanism, they are purely symmetrical to one another. The wiper hinging mechanics can be removed as is the engine, so conversion from RHD to LHD (and vice versa) was quite simple, took me 15 minutes.

cheers,
David.

thanks for the wiring diagram
David
