My zip has just broken tonight ! (whole zipper head in my hands)I've tried to run it back on the zip but now the zip is not meshing together.
Have no hard top and thunderstorms tomorrow - no garage one wet inside car....
- I've just tried some taping the rear screen back to the roof with insulation tape ...heat a problems just not binding against cloth.....

The lady recommended to me is Sonia Morris of
69, Rydal Gardens, just off the Whitton Road, between
Hounslow and Richmond. Tel: 0208 2893 9747.
She supplies new screens and zip repair kits.
Give her a call.

Get a needle and some thick thread and try to sew the two parts of the zip together. Do it with the front catches open so there is not too much pressure while sewing. This should keep you dry until you get a replacement zip.

If you have a placky sheet you can trap it between the bootlid and the front lip of the softtop

First thing, DON'T PANIC. Good ... deep breath ... now caaaallllmmm. Good. Now in your calm state it might be that you can remesh the zipper. No? Well, worth a try anyway. So, on with some other ideas...

For this type of event (actually, stems from my pessimism about my hood when I lived in Newcastle) I keep a roll of 'gaffer' tape in the car. Much more effective then insulation tape for holding everything together, including cloth, quite nicely. Have you got any to hand, or someone likely to have some you can beg from?

Alternatively, it seems you are on the right track. Carefully smoothing the side velcro bits of the screen in place should keep the sides waterproof, which just leaves the top of the screen. The hood overhanging the screen is to your advantage (and presumably designed that way). Try making sure the central velcro tag is secure, and then tape between that and the side velcro sections. Not very elegant (actually, extremely crude, but we are desperate here right?), but might prevent water getting in over the top of the screen if you are careful.

Alterntively, do you have a very large sheet of plastic you could place over the roof and tie (idea of tape on the paintwork makes me nervous!) in place?

Hi! D.J. Brown

Tony's comments are spot on. I took my MGF to this
lady on Saturday morning. Took her 1.30 hours to
replace the rear window and zips. Cost me £130 from
recollection, but well worth it compared to what other places wanted to charge me. If you are a keen
DIY man, then she will send you the bits you want
by post, so it would be even cheaper. Me, well I
prefer not to scrape my knuckles and for me, any simple job always turns into a major one for me, so
I leave it to the experts.
