MG TD TF 1500 - 4.3 axle conversion source
Looking forward to a bit more highway driving that I expected. I'm considering the MGA 4.3 conversion. Anyone here have it done? Who did it? I've reached out to Dave Clark this am. Is there anyone else I should consider? (USA) ........ |

Done. I had a very interesting talk with Mr. Clark. He's got an axle ready to go in the crate and it will ship today or Friday. As he's headed north for the summer he won't need my core back til September so I can swap it at my leisure. ...... |

Ditto on Dave. Job will take about 4 hours. Nothing is a miracle but it does help. Joe |

Ditto on a good Axel from Dave Clark. Great job, fair price, nice person to do business with. I would recommend him anytime. You won't be disappointed. Rod |

If this makes me a bit more comfortable on the highway it will be a tough call.... another TD or an MGA? The T's have a charm that NOTHING comes near for under $50K. Zero. The axle (I also ordered the new heftier axle shafts, cause, for 234.00 why not?) will be here Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm also expecting the new exhaust about then. I won't be doing anything for about a month, there are a few club functions to hit. I'll work out a plan to minimize down time. First things first..... spray everything with liquid wrench and keep it wet til the big day comes. Second.... identify the easier bits and pieces to replace/clean up while on my back. Third... put a damned diaper on the engine. Have you seen that mess under there? Yuk! ..... |

Mate You have taken all the fun and hair loss out of the process by not converting your diff yourself. Big difference in engine revs, third gear gets a lot more work. Graeme |

3rd gets more work. Yea, I figured that but if we didn't want to shift we'd install small automatics. I was planning on new syncros this winter anyway. ....... |

Just completed the conversion with Dave's 4.3 axle and like you, purchased his new and improved half axels. While first gear will still pull stumps, they will have be smaller ones. You will see improvements in each gear and after a 17 mile drive which included a 2 mile hill climb, I was grinning from ear to ear. Didn't need to shift down to 3rd either, my XPAG TF took the hill at 55 MPH @ 3500 RPM with throttle to spare... Perfect set up for TF 1250. John |

also did the conversion this past winter and am very happy with it. make sure you get the bearing spacers back in right and you will need to get your speedo recalibrated. but so much more fun to drive. went to a show the other day and drove 52-55 mph the whole way. ![]() |

Thanks guys for the kind words. A lot of what keeps me going is the responses I get on how my customers react to that first drive with the converted axle. I just bought a 4.3 gear set today. Up in WA now and the home work of opening everything up and such is near the end. Weather is perfect. Think I'll go play with the boat today :-) Dave |
