MG TD TF 1500 - 61 years old today
G'day all again, Tuesday 9th June 1954 was the "birth day" of our MG TF6020. Today, Tuesday 9th June 2015 marks her birthday, 61 years old today. Not a bad looker for her age,(my opinion any way). Still going strong and here's hoping she has a few more good years ahead. Ciao for now John TF6020 ![]() |

You know when I first started restoring my car in 1970 I remember that 'antique' cars had to be 50 years old to be considered antique. Where does that put the T series today? According to wiki: An antique car, in the general sense of the term, is an automobile that is an antique. Narrower definitions vary based on how old a car must be to qualify. In the United States, an antique car is generally defined as a car over 25 years of age, this being the definition used by the Antique Automobile Club of America Heck 25 years old cars are still daily drivers for many. To me antiques are probably pre 1930's. |

In the UK we have the following approximate definitions Veteran - built before 1915 Vintage - built 1915 - 1929 Post vintage - built 1930 - 1945 Classic - built 1946 - 1974 (and increasing by one year every year) Of course, there are also modern classics which tends to apply to rare and/or very expensive and/or limited edition cars. G'day all Neil...broadly speaking that's kind of how we have it here in Oz. Not too sure of the year break ups though. "Post vintage" is not really a group for us. Christopher..."antique" is not a term that we use for cars in general, although we all know what is meant when we use such terminology in casual conversation. Germans also use the word "oldtimer". Of course there is the pre-war and post war era. Kids all over the world know our cars as ooolld. You know, the cars from the olden times. Bless their sweet hearts. Ciao for now John TF6020 |

In Oregon an antique vehicle is defined as being older than the current year minus 1900 divided by 2. (2015-1900=115, 115/2=57 1/2). Nice to know that your 57 Chevy is an antique now according Oregon state law, isn't it!! I think the legislature may have had a wee bit too much free time on their hands that session... |

I define an antique car as one you can still work on with normal tools. Plus, don't need a $25000 machine you have to plug into to tune it up! Grin. PJ |

Paul had to smile as I read your post - normal tools. Well that eliminates the MG T in my mind. When were Whitworth wrenches ever considered normal. LOL Joe |
JWP Policastro |
Whitworth tools WERE considered "normal" when these cars were designed and built. That's why the factory went to great lengths to put Whitworth/BSF heads on metric fasteners, so that the average mechanic's tools would fit the fasteners. |

When people ask me, I usually tell hem "If it ain't got running boards, it ain't old!" My TD and Curved Dash Olds are old. A Camaro, Mustang or 57 Chevy are not old. |

G'day all Classic, vintage, old.....heck I reckon our cars qualify. After all, how many "modern" cars come with a "crank handle"??? Ciao for now John TF6020 |
