MG TD TF 1500 - abingdon spares

Martin @ ASL has parts that Moss does not list, the pedal box side cover, the gas cap trigger, the anti rattle cup on the shift rod...
Martin answers the phone personally.

I'm not a fan of their high prices but the service and parts availability makes up for that.

Call Martin for new prices, you can ask if he will match a competors price
Len Fanelli

Tim,

You have to remember that, starting with Gerry Goguen, and then Bob Seymour, Abingdon often forsook cheap Asian parts for the better quality of original English parts, usually resulting in a more expensive part.

A good example is a replacement water pump that didn't fit without having to grind away a corner, and that was made in ??? I recently sent Martin a new water pump seal that came from Australia and hopefully, Martin will make these correct seals, once again available so we can rebuild the original pump so as not have to rely on a cheap replacement.

I just think its good business to have a range of quality available, so we can make choices that fit our need and budget.

Since aquiring Abingdon Spares, Martin has reached out to the MG community. Abingdon Spares has a presence at GOFs again, and he has been receptive to feedback. I am impressed with what I have seen.

I wish Martin nothing but the best and I hope the business continues and does well. I have ordered parts in the past from Abingdon when I could not source them from Moss. It's more of a location thing for me...much as I suspect that the location is what has made them more of a fan favorite for those of you nearer the east coast. As an additional note I found it amusing that I have received parts from Moss that had the Abingdon Spares sticker on the package and I have received parts from Abingdon Spares with Moss stickers on them. I received both good and bad quality parts from both.

I've always liked AS quality but sometimes the price is even more outrageous than Moss... but as someone said, they do often have a better made part... just hope they invest in a good website that makes ordering easier!
Geoffrey M Baker

I agree with Geoffrey that their website/IT needs improving. I recently went through their online purchasing procedure and was subsequently advised that although still listed, the item ordered was no longer available, even on back order. My credit card was nevertheless billed for the item, including freight and overseas transaction costs.

I advised them of the charge made to my card and after a few emails a partial refund (purchase price and freight charges) was received. Subsequently, after more emails, I received an in store credit for the bank charges.

I thought Abingdon should not have billed me for an item they were unable to supply and should have accepted full responsibility and refunded me all costs.

The bank fees at issue were $AU21.87, ($US15.95). Not a large amount, but that is not the point.

In future I will avoid their on-line ordering system and do any purchasing by email.

Good policy when purchasing from a supplier is to email them and request pricing, availability and delivery and handling charges to your address. This is particularly prudent when purchasing from OS as freight charges are often vastly different to an Aus address compared to a local one. Be aware AUS post charges have gone thru the roof with recent changes.
G Evans

For all orders to overseas suppliers I totally agree with the advice of G Evans. (even if I am sometimes drawn into the on-line ordering so much a part of the industry). However I offer the following exchange from a couple of weeks ago to indicate that it is not always easy:

Dear …,
Could you give me a price for the supply and freight on the following parts please. One of the issues I have is that the total cost of goods plus freight has to be under $1000 Australian dollars otherwise local GST becomes payable.
With thanks,
Michael

The problem is Moss does not give us sizes and weights on any of their items so I really can't be very accurate on this. It can go by mail and maybe $100 but could be more or less. I really don't know
Best Regards, …

I guess one has to make allowances.

On a more positive note I have had dealings recently with John James in the UK and Tom Lange and both transactions have been a pleasure.
