Chris - for some reason - most likely my computer - I am having to load the photos in a delayed manner - taking a bit of time. The rack is very simple as you can tell from the photos. The inset mounting tabs are of course centered on the three lug nuts/wheel studs at the 12, 5, and 7 o'clock positions. They are inset into the wheel dish to compensate for the rim of the wheel and hold the carrier off of the actual wheel rim. You are free to make the base tubing wider and deeper if desired, As some have mentioned, the carrier is not sporty at all - but with a suitcase mounted on it, it doesn't look bad - and can be removed in 2 minutes once you reach a car show or event. We have found it to be very handy - it is nice not having to carry around an unused luggage rack when driving around locally. More photos and some measurements to come once my computer settles down - I am only able to load one photo every 10 minutes or so. |

I really like that style and you can put it on and take it off when you get to where you are going. |

I'm really puzzled. Is it still available from Abingdon Spares? It had been N/A . It's not listed on their website (page 61 #003d). Bud |

Hi Bud - it sounds as if they no longer produce this accessory. Our rack was purchased in 1978 or 79. I think Chris is interested in the possibility of creating one for his use. |
DLD |
Okay, that's what my memory bank was working on. The other racks are still on their site, but the prices are a bit steep, IMHO. Bud |

Apologies Cliff for addressing you as "Chris" in my earlier posts! |

A number of years ago, ca. 2002, a guy named Ben Prince put together the plans for an ultra-simple, inexpensive, functional TD luggage rack made from 3/4" PVC tubing. I built one, and have used it quite a bit. Here's a shot of it. Bud

Bud How did you get the paint to remain on the PVC pipe, usually any sort of abrasion results in it being damaged? |
G Evans |
You're right, George. It scrapes off quite easily. Here it's being used to carry a workbench to a club Tech Session. Bud

Thanks for the pics DLD, I get called Chris all the time apologies accepted. I found details of a PVC rack here http://www.omgtr.ca/technical/td_ted_pvcluggagerack/TD_Rack.htm It's very similar to yours Bud. Regarding the paint rubbing off have you tried a few coats of clear varnish? |
Cliff Harvey |
Indeed, it's quite similar, and based upon the same design of Ben Prince. Mine (as Ben's) has 2 additional horizontal bars. Haven't tried anything like clear varnish. It's on and off in a minute. Bud |
