MG TD TF 1500 - Accelerater to firewall blocks

I'm at the stage of attaching the accelerater to the firewall and had bought an accelerater off of eBay. As when I bought my car, the car had a Metropolitan 1500 (wrong) engine in it with jury rigged controls. Well I cleaned up the accelerater pedal assembly, painted it and got it attached to the firewall and one of the attach blocks broke. It seems the chap that sold me the assembly had fixed it with glue... it is white pot metal.
Does anyone know where these "blocks" can be bought? AS sells the whole assembly as does Brown & Gammon, however, I can't seem to locate just the blocks. Can enyone help with info?
Best regards

Mr. Murray:

I'm not sure if the TF accelerator shaft is the same or similar to the one on the TD or not? But checking out the Brown & Gammon's website - it would appear to me that it is?

If it is, you may find that, if you can purchase the block(s) separately from the shaft, you will experience difficulty getting it/them on the shaft unless you have a method of straightening out the shaft so you can slide the block(s) on and then re-bending the shaft back into the proper shape / angle. It probably could be done if you have access to oxyacetylene welding equipment to heat the shaft and a great deal of patience?

That may be why it is available as a unit - the manufacturer slides the blocks onto a straight shaft and then bends the shaft using a jig to ensure proper distances, bends, angles, etc.

Otherwise you may have to make up your own block(s) - which may require some innovative jiggery-pokery???

I wish you the best of luck in your quest and would be interested in how you make out.

Rodney, could you post a photo of the broken attachment block? I'm wondering if it is the same as a TD also, and if it could be drilled out and a stud installed.

I solved a similar issue using a thin metal band to hold the re-glued assembly together.

TD and TF the same, common for those to break. I have seen a piece of steel strapping just bent around the rod and bolted on for a very simple fix. A local race/fab shop made one for a TD. A thin rectangular base plate and a matching outline block of metal were clamped together, one hole drilled for the shaft, and another to bolt to the firewall. It would be described as a split bushing. Hope that makes sense. George

Thank you for your comments Gents! The block really is not repairable and sleeping on it last night (I really do work on this stuff in my sleep), I realized that I can make a substitute block using aluminum, drill it sideways for the shaft (then split in to two parts) and drill two holes for bolts to attach to firewall. I wish I had access to a milling machine as it would be much easier than the hacksaw and files I'll have to use; but, much cheaper than the 60 quid or over a 100 bucks for a complete new peddle assembly.
Again thanks

Thank you Gary; however, using the process from my previous post I made a block and it worked out perfectly.... in fact the new aluminum block is stronger than the white/pot metal stuff that they used for the original blocks.

Hi Rod,
I ran into the same problem and made a "P" shaped attachment out of a piece of 16 ga metal strapping Which has lasted for about 15 years and shows no sign of giving up. It has been removed and replaced around 4 times during that period and has not presented any difficulty in the removal or installation. It even survived your heavy foot on the Reno trip. See you in a couple of weeks.
