MG TD TF 1500 - Altette horn

I've been trying to get my Altette horn apart for 3 days now with soaking etc -even a little heat (throw your arms in the air) with no real success. The difficulty is removing the diaphragm. I've been following the description on the Triple MMM site. https://www.triple-mregister.org/upload ... ltette.pdf. It separates by about 10mm but refuses to as stated in the write up mentioned ccome out of the housing. I would add that I've yet to remove all of the bezel fixing studs basically due to corrosion. Is that necessary to be able to "tilt" the armature?

The center of the diaphragm has a "loop" which hooks on the magnet core. Lift the diaphragm and slide it away. You may have to try in several different directions as the diaphragm will only come away in one direction.

Thanks Lew. Currently soaking the bezel studs as they are badly corroded in. They obviously restrict the amount of movement sideways in the diaphragm. Hopefully when all out I will be able to sort it.

I MAKE A HOMEBREW OF PENETRATING OIL..
50% POWERSTEERING FLUID
50% ACETONE OF LAQUER THINNER.
IT HAS BEEN PROVEN MUCH BETTER THAN ANY PURCHASED PRODUCT.

Having successfully removed all bar one stud (one of those holding the badge bar braket) with a wiggle the diahpragm came off. Used hyraulic acid on the studs to get them free. BEWARE dont leave on to long. will eat the metal/threads etc. and damage any chrome. Now soaking to get the rest apart.

Whoops meant "bracket" and HYDROCHLORIC acid

Jan, if I may while you're on this topic: everyone should read the educative and quirky exposition on Altettes and their cousin Altos in a web piece called (from memory) <taffthehorns.com> , a guy in Wales who really knows his stuff!
