MG TD TF 1500 - Another Parts Distributor

FYI,

While doing some research on converting to disc brakes I came across something called MG Bits.
It appears to be the email address for a company in England that is another parts distributor for our T time cars.

If you have not heard of them before here is the link to the catalog.

The company is called NTG. While looking over the catalog I found this interesting note that seems to make it quite simple to put a lip seal at the rear of the crankshaft.

3British MotorHeritage ApprovedEngine - Internal XPAG Engine - leaks from crankshaftOne of the most common complaints concerning these engines is loss of oil from the rear of the crankshaft, which incorporates a return scroll designed to feed surplus oil back into the sump via a drain tube in the rear main bearing cap. This antiquated system worked reasonably well when the cars were new provided one accepted a few drops of oil from the split pinned drain hole under the rear of the sump. However, owing to the age of the components and incorrect assembly, oil loss can become excessive, and a kit part B165S is now available which features a lip seal bearing on the flywheel flange of the crankshaft which should also be fitted with a "Speedy Sleeve" part B165T ensuring a smooth surface for the seal. There is no machining required other than drilling one small hole, but the engine has to be removed from the car and dismantled before the modification can be carried out. A complete illustrated instruction sheet is supplied with the kit.Care must also be taken with the sump gasket which should be fitted to the block face first in order to ensure that the cork seal on the main bearing cap has its ends notched to fit against ends of the sump gasket. It is advisable to use a sealant on the ends of the cork seal. A lip seal G903 is also available as a replacement for the rope seal at the front in the timing cover and sump. This requires the application of sealant in the groove for the original seal before fitting.

Mort,
Sit down and take your heart tablets when you look at their postage rates!

Having said that, they do offer some parts that others don't and the quality of at least some of the parts is a cut above the rest.

Mort. NTG has been in the MG supply business for about as long, if not longer than Moss Motors.

I bought parts from them back in the 70's for my TD's first restoration and have been dealing with them on my current restoration. Their quality is very good (their floorboards are the best/most original of anyone). They carry a lot of the TD steel parts,

They are super to work with. You can call or email Paul and he will answer any questions you have.

Shipping is not all that bad, you can still do better even with shipping to the US, on a lot of parts.

I just did a large order of all my interior, carpet, top, side curtains, tonneau and misc. other parts and saved around $1500 over US suppliers. They did give a discount on the larger order.

I am having some customs issues on the order (see thread on Customs Issues), but that is not as much an issue from NTG. They responded to a customs request for information on the shipment very quickly.

NTG is a great company. I used to order all my Y-Type stuff from them years ago. Not well known outside the UK though.

Thank you all for the history lesson. I had a feeling they were around a long time but it was new to me.
