MG TD TF 1500 - Arnolt heater fixing bolt thread

I've owned my unrestored Sept '53 LHD TF for 30 years.
It has a US Arnolt heater that has never been properly secured.
I aim to fashion supports but need to get some nuts and washers for at least two of the three rear mounting studs.
Can anyone tell me what the thread size might be?
None of the nuts in my box of bits will fit.
Thanks

Hi John can i ask if your heater is fixed at the rear of the gear stick and could you please let me know how to switch off the heater as there is nothing in the manual about any heater on my 1954 tf. Derek

Derek the heater presently sits on the carpeted gearbox cover in front of the gear stick.
The water supply is permanently connected ie no valve.
There is a variable resistor (rheostat) wired in line that gives control of the heater fan speed from full on through to off,
Search the BBS archives for more info - pretty much everything is covered apart from stud thread ;-)

Thanks for the information John and yes it's the same heater as mine. I thought that it would have been mentioned in the manual but maybe it was added at a later date. I will check the bbs archives as you suggest. Thanks Derek

D? Barnet,
the heater was not a factory fit so the switch could be anywhere. Just follow the wiring back to the dash.

Derek,
well done on getting your 'Vehicle profile' up and to view, the photos on site can't be overlarge if you're using a phone or mobile device (which also alter orientation here, I guess possibly because the device was held out of orientation(?). I've never found my photos are now too large for the site from my 17 year old digital 3.2 mega pixel camera.

If going to the Archives use the 'Archive' button link at the to of this page otherwise you could enter a maze as well as the usual rabbit hole.

If your heater doesn't have a valve on the coolant supply then it is always on (open) and any switch may well be just to get an electric motor to blow the air from the heater.

And just to save confusion, the convention is to think of always viewing the car from behind the rear boot/bumper(s) facing forwards, hence right hand drive for UK models, and think of the nearside as being near the kerb, offside to middle of road away from the kerb.

HTH.

Just checked the 3 on the back of my Arnolt heater. They're plain old USA 5/16-18 threads. Bud

That’s great, thanks Bud,
I guessed they’d be American
Is USS 5/16-18 same as UNC?

Yes, John, 5/16-18 is a UNC thread. Bud

John, I reactivated a thread about Arnolt heater mounting and wiring. Thought it might be of information. Bud
