MG TD TF 1500 - ARP Intake-Exhaust Manifold Studs
Hello,
I am replacing the Intake-Exhaust manifold studs in our cylinder head (M6 x 1mm - please see the included picture) and contacted ARP to see if they had suitable studs. These are not the M10 x 1.5mm exhaust flange studs (picture courtesy of LaVerne). It looks like ARP is seriously considering making the Intake-Exhaust manifold studs and I wanted to let people know in case they also might be interested. They are looking into using 8740 for the studs and checking heat treatment now. So, if anyone else is interested, you should contact Donny at ARP and let him know ( I have no financial interest in this): Donaven De Alejandro (Donny) Specialty Products Coordinator ARP 1760 Lemonwood Drive Santa Paula CA 93060 Tel (805)525 1497 Fax (805) 525 1441 E-mail: donavend@arpfasteners.com Web: www.arp-bolts.com Regards, Bill ![]() |

Sounds like a natural thing for Tom Lange to handle. Bud |

Bill, I believe the correct size for our MG TD studs is 8 X 1 mm, (not 6 X 1) |

Richard, you are correct they are M8 x 1mm. It was a typo. Thanks, Bill. Can the Forum correct the change? I can not edit it. |

Bill, those studs also have a role as inserting into the bellhousing to act as guides for the gearbox when installing or removing it. Definitely 8mm. Bud

Hi Bud,
Sorry, I was up at 1:00AM and posted while half asleep. They are definitely M8 x 1mm and it was unfortunately typed as M6 x 1mm. ARP currently only makes M6 x 1mm studs in metric fine thread (existing forgings) and it was a simple slip-up when posting on the forum late at night. This is from ARP over one week ago (3/5/2018 at 19:42 EST) to show we are discussing the correct stud diameters: "Took a look through our specials inventory and stock inventory. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find anything with a M8x1.0. All of our studs have M8x1.25 on both sides. I saw the pictures of the studs you sent over with measurements. I believe an 8740 material would work for this application. I'll check with my colleagues to make sure. Which thread length goes into the head? I want to make sure I have the right thread lengths." BTW, it would be great if Tom sold ARP intake-exhaust manifold studs. But, not sure if there is enough demand to warrant his efforts when running a business. I just wanted to use a quality stud that wasn't made in China or India with unknown characteristics. Rebuilding cylinder heads/engines is expensive and you want to do it once using the best parts available. Only posted this because I would appreciate knowing better studs might be available from a manufacturer/supplier when rebuilding a cylinder head. I am not trying to sell anything to anybody. Regards, Bill |
