MG TD TF 1500 - ARP Rod Bolt Needed
I need 1 ea. ARP Connecting Rod Bolt and Nut. This is the big end rod bolt sold by Moss P/N 321-269. Some how, one of mine from the set is missing. I bought these over a year ago, so Moss won't correct the shortage. I hate to buy a new set and have 7 of them setting around and not being a usable complete set. My wild hope is that someone out there had a similar shortage, or other situation that left them with a broken set also. Please email me if you can help. Rich |

Tom already sent me one of his bolts--- It wouldn't work because my rod holes are too small for his spec bolts. I really need the Moss ARP bolt and nut because they are a little smaller in diameter. Thanks for the recommendation though Bud. |

The bolt should be snug in the rod end so as to maintain alignment and prevent shifting |

Yes Bill, snug but if it won't even enter the hole of an already installed rod, I can't use it in this situation. I don't want to pull the crank and .100" over piston assembly to ream the hole to provide the fit. I need an ARP Moss bolt, even if I have to buy a whole set and basically throw the other 7 away. Believe me, I measured everything carefully before I sent the bolt Tom provided me back. |

Okay. I didn't realize the shanks of Toms were a different spec. I thought your bore was wobbled out. Regards Bill Chasser jr TD 4834 |

There is a Datsun (Nissan) bolt which fits perfectly in the XPAG rod. They are from a fairly old model but I assume they are still available. The last time I bought any was about 5 years ago. The first time was about 25 years ago. Of course the model Datsun they fitted was not necessarily available in USA. Let me know if one of these might help as I should have the part number written down somewhere. I might even have a new spare somewhere in the shed although that might be a bit inefficient time/postage wise from Australia. From memory the Datsun bolt and nut had a 1.1mm pitch thread. They are precision ground to the exact diameter so they are perfect for cap alignment. Sometimes they need the flat side of the head touched on a grindstone but otherwise they go straight in. They have a deep nut which I lock with Loctite. Bob Schapel |

Richard, I should have added ... if you don't use a bolt which is identical to the others you could introduce an unwanted imbalance problem. The bolt you use in place of the missing one MUST be the same weight as the others. Alternatively, you could use FOUR bolts of some other sort as long as you use one in each rod (on the same side) to keep things balanced. Bob |

Thanks,Bob, If I could find some Datsun bolts, I wouldn't be afraid to use them. However, I believe I bought the last set in the world about 5 years ago for another engine---they came to me through Nissan from various places in the world to get 8 of them, and yes, I had to machine some off the heads to fit them. This was before Moss or Tom had ARP bolts available. Here's the article related to them----http://www.angelfire.com/alt/yd3/TD/XPAG_Rod_Bolts.pdf |

Thanks for that information Richard, Disappointing to hear that the Datsun bolts are no longer available. I will have to check my spares to see if I have any for my next XPAG rebuild. Bob |

Every once in a Red Moon, a miracle happens. Moss Technical Services was able to tell me they package the Rod Bolt sets in house and they provided me a P/N to order one (1) bolt Separately----- Issue solved. Thanks for all who recommended a possible solution. A great Forum |

That part number is still shown online for $2.77 each. http://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-bolt-conn-rod~12109-b3000.html |
