MG TD TF 1500 - Average Miles per Year

Following on from my previous post on oils perhaps some owners can lets us know their approx annual mileage so we can calculate a reliable average. Last year I did about 5000.

Lazarus has covered about 28,000 miles since 1995. That's an average of about 1200 miles per year. There have been some 3,000 mile years, but since moving down here I've barely covered 2,000 miles in the past 2.5 years. This could well be a 3,000 mile year. Weather permitting, I'm planning that put-off trip to Texas, and back. Bud

2011/2012 I did right at 20,000 miles. Haven't done any cross country trips since then. Last year was close to 2000, but it splits seat time with the MGB. If it was just the TF it would have been about 5000. Still hope to do an epic drive or two before I croak which would get me well over 10,000 miles on those drives alone.

I feel that the time not-driven is more important for our cars than the miles driven. Moisture and chemicals in the oil created by combustion damage bearings. Moisture isn’t evaporated in short drives. Blow-by from worn parts and increased clearances continues to build up between oil changes.

I change about twice a year. Sometimes after only 500 miles when TF or my 54 Chev truck wasn’t driven for extended periods. Don’t know if it helps, but it makes me feel good.

I agree with Lonnie. I have the '53 TD, a '62 MGA, a '72 MGB and a '77 Ford F-100. I try (don't always succeed) to drive each of them at least 50 miles (continuous) each month which I think helps. Fortunately, here in South Carolina we have at least a couple of good driving days each month even in the middle of winter. Dry and sunny is all I ask. I can bundle up for any temp above 35F.

For me about 25,000 in the last 42 years or about 600 a year. There are 5 other British cars in the collection to exercise.

I have probably the least. Since I moved out to California, the TD has pretty much stayed in its bubble awaiting this restoration.

When I was in Wisconsin, I put about 2000 miles a year. Because it was stored in an unheated garage, Oil is changed when it goes into storage and when it comes out.

I have 500 miles a year the last 12 years.
Driving season here up in NORWAY, from
mid april to mid sept.

Back in the 1990's we did about 10/12000 miles a year. One trip to France we clocked up 2500 miles. Since then the annual mileage has dropped to about 2000 for the TD and 3000 the TF. Two years ago we went to Scotland and did about 1200 miles in 14 days.

Can't see these mileages increasing - the density of modern traffic makes life difficult in a small car. However our Bullnose Morris is easier to drive because it blocks the road and they don't try to pass!
