MG TD TF 1500 - Ballantine's Scotch MG TD

Back in 1982, Ballantine's Scotch had a contest with the prize, a 1952 MG TD. They promoted this with store displays made of a plastic TD.

An acquaintance gave me one of the kits used to make the store display. The box it was in sat on the ground and bugs ate all the paper display signs, but the plastic parts were intact.

The kit contained two cars. One inside the other.

After 36 years, the plastic had become very brittle and even taking the two shells apart caused cracking.

I managed to put one together. I play on mounting it on a board and putting it on the wall in my shop.

I'm amazed at how they got such a good likeness to a TD. Maybe they drank the bottle of Scotch first!

Having been with you when you got this I can attest to the fragility of this display. It was caked in years of dust and unfortunately the cardboard display had deteriorated to dust as well. The pieces you were able to recover cleaned up very well by its appearance in the pictures. It certainly will be a source for conversation to visitors of your man cave.

Tanqueray Gin gave away a Green 49 TC around the same time. I sent a card for the drawing but sadly didn't win. Lol I still have the magazine ad in my scrap book.
