MG TD TF 1500 - Battery

I've finally got a rubber cased battery!. Pic attached. It's just been manufactured by Gerald at Ariel Batteries in Melbourne after a long search for an original rubber case. The only issue is in getting it up here to Sydney. It's dry but couriers have already dropped and totally buggered two batteries shipped out of Melbourne to WA.

So if anyone is planning a trip up from Melbourne in the next couple of months please email me pjbm at bigpond dot com. Happy to bribe you with a nice bottle of red! Cheers

Peter,
Looks good. You could easily make a silicone mould from the case and use poly to cast repros.

I took an older repo battery with the proper caps to the recycler last year. I should have save the caps. :-(

Thanks Matthew, however my guess is that Ariel Batteries will be closed over that period so my only hope would be an early bird. Anyone from Sydney going down early? Cheers

Ouch Chris. I would have bought that from you.

I'm traveling down to Melbourne by train in a few weeks to pick up my battery. As it's so rare I think it's wise to be wholly responsible for getting it up here safe and sound. I'll have the local auto electrician fill it with electrolyte and charge it up just before I'm ready to fire up the engine for the first time in 48 years. The battery in South Australia unfortunately wasn't the correct size.

If anyone has an original LUCAS cap it would be great to get a mould made. I'm sure many of us would be able to put that to good use. Cheers

Peter. I for one am looking forward to finally seeing and hearing your car fire off. Waking up the beast is always a turning point in to getting the car to fruition. How’s your painting coming along? Dad’s car is getting closer to the paint booth and I’m getting anxious to get color on the car. I fired it off for the first time in January and she purrs like a kitten. Very satisfying as she hadn’t run since at least 1965.

Hi Bill. Still getting beaten by Sydney's humidity. It's a real pain. Even with the dehumidifier I need a couple of days in a row in the 30s' to have any sort of chance.
Cheers
