MG TD TF 1500 - Beautiful Rolled TF1500 Price?

A few weeks back there were sad pictures of a rolled TF1500, a Premier-winning car that had been torn off its trailer in an accident on the way to the GOF in Canada, with the trailer landing on top of it. The windshield was gone and every body part looked bad, but fortunately nobody in the tow car was more than shaken up.

The claim was settled and the car went to Copart in Hartford CT to be sold this morning at auction. I bid up to $6100 but was outbid; did anyone see what it sold for? Or who bought it? Copart is not forthcoming...

If anyone hears anything more about the car, I would be grateful to know. Thanks very much.

There's a lot of meat left on that bone.

BUT!-- with that salvage title it can no longer be registered as a driveable motor vehicle. It's a parts car. Bud

The frame was the worst the restoration shop ever saw!
It has a TC gear box, new interior except seat covers.

Perhaps the doors can be used again.
I did the restoration with him.

I fixed a rolled TD with more damage, that was not nearly as nice a car to start with. It can be done.

I saw this Car bid up to $6900 Monday night, with Reserve Not Met. It was to be auctioned off Tuesday AM. Don't know what happened Tuesday.....but it's back with no Bids...and a Buy It Now $500 less at $9500.

Anyone know if it was agreed value insurance or? With the price they are asking, the insurance value must have bee up there.

Yes, it was.

Based on Hagerty and other prices listed, it was worth somewhere in the $40-45,000 range. The car has been up at auction four times now, with very small reductions in the reserve each time. I expect it will continue to be auctioned until it will finally sell when the reserve gets into the $6,000 range - it's clearly in the $9,000 range right now, going down by $500 increments each time it comes up for auction, a week at a time.

It's a seriously badly-damaged car, with no body panels or fenders worth saving, no windshield, a crushed cowl, and a badly-bent frame (as Len Fanelli noted, the very worst that the appraisers had ever seen). That leaves the drive-train and the interior, and smalls. It comes with a salvage title, so that also very much works against it.

One can understand the insurance company trying to get back some of their $40,000, but they are unrealistic. A "friend" totaled my 1967 Volvo 123GT insured for $15,000, and when I tried to buy it back the insurance company was very willing - for $10,000. They laughed at my $5,000 offer, and finally got $1200 from a junkyard. Served them right, I thought, but I still miss that car.

I never heard that salvage title cars could not be reconstructed and registered for driving use. I have a number of friends who bought salvage title cars and are using them, one in New York and one in California. The salvage title is there permanently to warn future buyers of its former status and buyer beware.

Apparently laws have changed to create 'reconstructed vehicle titles' that will allow vehicles to be registered after passing inspections:

Documentation necessary to register a salvage vehicle differs from state to state, but proof of ownership, the certificate of salvage and the certification that the vehicle has passed the salvage inspection are common requirements. The need for additional paperwork, which may include an application for registration, receipts for parts and proof of repairs, can be determined by visiting the DMV website in the state where the vehicle is to be registered. After the submission of the documentation to the DMV, a new title indicating that the car has been rebuilt to state standards is issued. The vehicle can then be registered after paying all necessary fees, making it legal to drive again on public roads.
