MG TD TF 1500 - Blinker Indicator light

Hey guys,

All of a sudden my blinker indicator light is staying on all the time. The light is solid not flashing.
Not even when the blinkers are in use. The Blinkers still work. I am using a repop switch as pictured. Also I have rear LED taillights with an electronic flasher. Everything was working fine and then all of a sudden this! Any thoughts to what might be going on? I have yet to dive into it.

Thanks,
Rich

The light is fed by a light green wire that comes from the P terminal on the flasher. It’s next to the power feed wire.
I would guess the two are some how connected. Either a short or a bad flasher.

Jim, is your indicator a light bulb, or an LED? I ran into a somewhat similar situation a year or so ago when I converted the rear lamps to LED arrays. When your turn signals are blinking, do your rear lights got out between flashes, or do they just dim? It's unlikely for the switch to cause this problem. Unless it has circuitry of some sort in it besides the switch contacts. Have you also changed your front lamps to LEDs? Bud

If your using a repop DB 10 relay having a circuit board, they are known to be problematic and may be the source of your problem. They feedback within the relay causing various issues. Flashing as four ways, staying lit solid when the switch is in the neutral position etc. I went through 3 different NIB repop DB 10s, sourced through Moss, all having circuitry issues straight out of the box. Doing nothing more than swapping the repop for an original Lucas breaker type DB 10 relay solved the feedback issues.

Bud, It's Rich asking the question.

But yes I do have an LED indicator. Mine is affected by the ignition noise. It does not stay on. I have not got into it to add a filter. I should do that while I am limited in going out.
Mine "lightly" blinks, in time with the engine, while at idle.

I believe a "pi" filter will take care of it.

Bill, according to the wiring diagram, the indicator light is fed directly off the flasher. although another terminal on the flasher feeds the "Magic Box" the connection to the indicator is not direct.

Sorry about that Rich/Jim. My problem was cured by installing a NAPA EL-13 Electronic Flasher. I R/R'd the tail light LEDs 4 times before I finally found the cure. BTW, the front white/amber LEDs made the situation even more puzzling. Bud

Jim. Thank you for clarifying. I didn’t read that it was a dash light. My cars don’t have it

Hey guys thanks for the responses. Sorry I did not get back quicker. Bud, my dash light is indeed a bulb. The rear lights dim a little when flashing but not much. Just about went blind researching this to answer you lol! My front lamps are not LED.

I don't have a turn signal dash blinker, now that I think about it. I use an electronic beeper. My dash lamp is an indicator for the high beams. It appears to be an OEM lamp.
Rich, you are fighting the same battle that I had when I installed the rear LEDs. The manufacturer of the LED system claims that it must be because of my faulty installation technique. Switching to the NAPA EL-13 cured it. My problem now is the inability to find a spring clip mount for the plastic flasher. No one seems to carry them any more. Bud
