MG TD TF 1500 - Body to chassis padding

Is there any padding, rubber or otherwise, where the body and the chassis meet? Seems like there must be some somewhere, but I can’t find anything in the catalogs or in the numerous pictures I took while disassembling. Thanks.

They used felt, but most people use rubber these days as it doesn't hold water.

It was actually a compressed fibrous material. Sort of like super heavy/dense cardboard that did not absorb water.

But as Dave states, most today use a rubber like product.

When you change these out make sure you know the relationship of these pads to the door opening.

Bill,

I use a Urethane based material for the body to chassis pads.

It doesn't compress easily and the door fits stay exactly the same throughout the car's life ! The original material compressed badly over time.

Photo of original padding between my TF dash support and the cowl. Most of the felt in other locations was deteriorated pretty badly.

If I ever finish my restoration, I will use 30-pound felt roofing felt in place of the original felt.

I used felt except for the strip between the inner rear wheel wells where it is bolted to the bracket under the side screen locker.

Lonnie, you'll get there!

I have noticed this "felt" inbetween the inner fenders and the body frame and also under the wood tthat the rear view mirror goes through.

Has anyone investigated a more modern, but yet similar material? If so, I would be intertested to see what was found.

I was thinking about looking at Miners Moss. It is a material used in sluce boxes to catch gold. Very water resistant.

I think we are talking about two different applications.

Felt was used between the sheet metal and the frame members.

What I thought Bill Reid was asking about was the pads between the chassis and the body frame. The ones that you use to adjust the door openings.

I guess I was asking about both. On disassembly I didn’t notice any padding of any sort, but then the lower portions of the car were in pretty bad shape.

So I will need a felt like material anywhere the body and frame make contact and another type of material to adjust the body height so that the doors fit properly?

Are there any diagrams or descriptions out there showing where these materials are placed? Do the usual suspects carry these materials? And, if not, how thick should each be? Anything else I need to know?

When I disassembled my TF I found the originals pads to be what I believe is a cork like material They're still there. Material appears to be approximately 1/8" think.

Second try here.

Thanks.....1/8 inch is what I need

I did find this horsehair replacement matting.

Chris. Do you have any pictures of the other material used for the body?
