MG TD TF 1500 - Bolts for rear splash pan
My first post: Does anybody know the thread-size and length for the 2 bolts attaching the rear splash apron to the chassis? They are below the bumper attachments and I cannot find the details anywhere. Thanks in advance, Peter B |

I believe they are the same size as the fender bolts. |

I checked, 5/16 BSF. Here's a link to T-talks,s body fastener list. http://www.ttalk.info/Clark/TD-TF%20Body%20screws,%20fasteners%20and%20hardware.htm |

Well that link doesn't work, try this. http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/TechIndex.html This is Bud Krueger's site. Lots of great info and the hardware list can be found there. |

Thanks for the feedback Rich. I love this forum. Moss UK Tech Support advise me they are 3/8 bsf and that the bolts were often not used anyway. I did try 5/16 - too small. |

Or -- http://www.ttalk.info/Fasteners.htm http://www.ttalk.info/td_body_bolts.htm shows them to 3/8 x 3/4 BSF (for TD, probably same for TF) Bud |

Below the bumper attachments?? Mine are 1/4 BSF chrome head Philips. There not below the bumper brackets. What car is this for? |

Hi Paul, my car is TD #0289 Dec 1949. There are two threads on the rear end of the chassis rail - the top hole is for fitting the bumper and back bar and is a large thread (maybe 1/2" bsf) and the bolts are chrome, hex-head with large spacer (they line up with the overriders). The bolts I was after are directly below those (still on the end of the chassis rail) and it is most definitely 3/8" bsf hex-head. I will paint them black because my car is black. These bolts hold the rear splash apron in place, and Moss UK inform me that they were often left out as the splash apron is also held by the bumper bolts previously mentioned and chrome head Philips screws on top. I will post a photo when I remove the bumper again. Thanks for all the interest. Cheers, P |

TD pan wraps over and down over the frame Paul. Have a look at your frame and you will see the extra threaded openings the TD used still left inn the TF frame unused.

OK, I was wondering if I was missing something on my car. Grin. Now I understand. I wonder why they added that bolt when the bumper bracket bolt secures it? We may never know. Another reason I love these cars, always another mystery! PJ |
