MG TD TF 1500 - Bonnet latch catches
My catches (the things with the square holes that the bonnet latches latch to) became separated from the fenders, now I can't tell which one goes where. There are two for each side, one slightly longer than the other. Logic dictates that the longer one would go to the rear of the fender, but, as we know, logic doesn't always work with these cars. Also, I have conflicting information on which direction the curve should face. I have a friend that insists his car is very original and the curved side should be on the engine side, yet if I look at some pictures (like Dave Braun's pictures of his fenders as originally removed) the curved side is facing away from the engine. Anything definitive available? |

Convex side outwards by the drivers handbook P55. The Service Parts List does not show two lengths and there is only one length on my (older restoration) TD. Matthew. |

Curved in on my departed TD. Both the same length

Second above, all same and convex outward. George |

Also agreed with LaVerne and George. The convex side provides a measure of pressure on the bonnet side to prevent rattling. |

Wonderful, thanks all! Apparently some cars came with different length catches and some didn't. I put the longer ones on the back and they seem to fit there when I test fit the bonnet side. |
