MG TD TF 1500 - Brace tub before removal

Hi!

I'm almost at the point of removing the tub from my 1952 MGTD and placing it on a dolly.

Should I be considering installing a set of braces to maintain the integrity? I have seen these braces welded into MGA and MGB bodies, but am unsure of how to proceed with a TD.

Thanks for your help.

No need IMHO

I used a couple perforated steel angle irons. Been a while, but I think I used the windscreen bracket holes in the front, and the seat bracket holes in the wheel arches in the back to bolt it on, with some diagonal cross bracing. You could also use one of the firewall to tub nut/bolts and the gas tank mount holes for longer ones Just cut, bend, drill and fit as needed. The pulley system above is neat, but you don't want it to fold up! Search archives for other ideas. George

Recommend you brace it. Lower rocker area is relative weak. As you see I used metal Elec conduit with ends of tube smashed. I drilled one hole on each end and fastened to main timbers with a short drywall screw.

I used brass pipe because I could flatten the ends to attach it. I only used these for lifting it off the body. Once off, It sits fine on stands.

Amazing, it's such a simple thing to do, why would you choose not to? All the stripping I did on my tub and it stayed perfectly aligned plus my doors went back on in the same position as they came off. JMHO PJ

Thanks for the assistance!

I placed two crossing braces across each door opening, using 1/2" conduit flattened on the ends. I used one of the the windshield cowl holes for one brace and an existing mount screw for the other (both on the forward edges of the door frame). I drilled a pilot hole and inserted a wood screw on each of the two ends on the rear edges of the door frame. I noticed, before assembling the braces, that there was a slight change in the door gap when lifting the rear of the body.
