MG TD TF 1500 - Brake hose thread BSF?
Correct pitch for brake hose end? I am replacing my front flex brake hoses. I have the correct hoses I believe from my usual reliable supplier here. However, the thread on the (thick) end which attaches to the car body mount, is different from the hose I removed. The hose I removed is on top and the new part is below. The new part seems to have a BSF thread and I have no idea what specification it is, so I can obtain the correct nut? The NTG example seems to show the same BSF (?) thread? Merv ![]() ![]() |

Umm--If the old hoses fitted and the new ones don't---wouldn't that point towards they've supplied the wrong hoses---I think i'd be sending them back willy |

I have spoken to Bruce Smith and that might be the case Willi. However all the new ones (eg NTG) available seem to have the fine thread. I have made up some brass ones with a tap that seems right. |

Fair enough- just out of interest what's the od of the thread and the tpi of the tap you used, and I'll check up There's been some weird stuff going on with bolts etc lately---mostly from India, they just send anything Lots of imperial bolts about with metric grading on the heads--- |

Hmmm ... "curiouser and curiouser said Alice" G'day Merv & Willy, I bought a set of three hoses from Bruce maybe 18 months ago and have just backed off the nut on one of the front hoses to find that the thread is indeed fine pitch - 5/8x26tpi. Huh? That is far from BSF (14tpi) and the only matching thread that I can find in my trusty "Machinery's Screw Thread Book" is Cycle Engineers Standard Thread. Classic Fasteners in Adelaide have such nuts in stock. Hope this helps Ian |

Willi, Ian has what I have measured as well. 24 TPI and 5/8". Not sure what is going on. Bruce Smith said that is what they supply these days!! Seems the others do as well. |

I understand that this is Hex Nut 5/8" - 26 tpi BSCY |

more likely to be British brass thread. the only difference is the angle of the thread form (55deg against 60) they readily interchange. Ray TF 2884 |

Interesting either way, cycle or brass thread would be the most logical I guess. Another possible could be they've gone metric 16x1mm pitch, that'd be equal to 25.4tpi I'd love to get my thread gauges on one to know for sure--lucky it's only a lock nut and not a stressed part willy |
William Revit |
On my pitch gauge, it is very close to 1 mm. Why couldn't they use a spring lock washer? |

Wouldn't be 'original' - LOL |
