MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Linings
I was watching Wheeler Dealers do an old Volvo and Ed China put in new Kevlar brake lining that have over double the co-efficient of friction, stated .46, which would be a large safety factor on our cars. Does anyone know if these linings can be had for our TD/TF cars? Best regards Rod Murray |

A source in Ohio used to offer kevlar shoes. He had ads on the back page of the British Marque. Can't remember his business name. Bud |

Just checked my email archive. The guy's name was Ted Schumacher. Email was tedtsimx@bright.net. That was in 2004. Bud |

Thanks for the info Bud! Has anyone here used these and can comment on the improved stopping power? Rod Murray 54 TF |

If this brake lining material was so good, wouldn't other makers use it? Tom 54 TF |

As I understand it the Kevlar material is VERY expensive and is very hard on the drums, plus our demand is very small to begin with:) Best regards Rod |

I second the "hard on our drums" comment. Regards, tom |

From what I've read softer linings stop better yet wear out quicker. I sort of like this way but can't confirm. Mike |

I cant see any need for kevlar shoes,, the inexpensive Moss shoes work just fine,, and in a panic stop will lock up all four corners easily. Steve |

Kevlar pads are soft and wont wreck drums. Problem with normal soft pads is they stop great but fade sooner than harder pads. Kevlar soft pads would have the good qualities of being able to stop quicker (than harder)but would not fade because the nature of Kevlar is not to be effected like that from heat. Maybe you guys thinking Kevlar bullet proof vests must be real hard, when actually they are sort of soft, but solid. Bullets don't bounce off, they sort of get caught in the Kevlar without going through. Nothing ultra hard like steel plate armor. |
