MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Part Needed

I am in desperate need for the dust cover on the brake piston. Last week I took all of my breaks apart and with tie wraps I held the cylinders in place. I just received a new set of brake shoes and started to install them and realized that one of the cylinders in the front is missing one of the dust covers. My first assumption was that I dropped it but a thorough search of the garage has not turned it up. My next thought is that it was never there in the first place. If that is possible???
If someone has one or two dust covers laying around from an old brake job I would greatly appreciate them mailing it to me. I would be glad to cover any cost for the part and the postage.
I am scheduled to lead a caravan of cars from Central Jersey down to Lewes Delaware next week but having brakes would be of great assistance.
TIA,
Mort

Hi, They are supposed to be spot welded on to the piston. You could pull one of your old pistons out and swap for the missing one. Presuming that you have one that is in good shape. I have a number of old ones that I can dig through if you can't use one of your old ones. Or contact the supplier- it shouldn't have come off. George

Is this what you need?

George, Is that dust cover on top spot welded to the cylinder below it? In a telephone conversation with one of our learned enthusiasts, I was informed that that dust cover is spot welded to the piston assembly. I was informed that quite often they are broken away from the spot weld when someone tries to pry a frozen person out of the cylinder. On my car they were virtually all loose. I did not notice this 10 years ago when I first got the car and put new shoes on.
Now I realize that the one front cylinder never had the dust cover since I have on the car. I have put about 30,000 miles on the car since then and never had a problem without the cover. I would however, prefer to have the cover because it also serves to keep the adjuster from moving laterally.
So to answer your question George, that is the part that I am looking for but I'm going to visit a TD on Saturday that has a box full of used brake parts. I will let you know in a few days if I still need it.
Thank you,
Mort

Yes it is solidly spot welded. I always seat an automotive type o-ring in the groove to seal it when foot is off the brake. Some of the later cylinders/repair kits have flat rubber washers there that do the same thing. I have more of these if you or anyone needs. George

If its any help, I have a complete set of front brakes and drums that I took of my 52' TD when I converted to disk brakes. they have only been used on DOT-5 since rebuild.
I do believe the front cylinders were rebuilt and are original to the car.

Thank you all.

I did salvage the part I need from a member of my local club. I have installed all new shoes and the brakes work great.
By carefully selecting the proper thickness shim or by using no shim at all, I set each wheel so that adjustment that locked the drum was about the middle of the adjusting cam. This leaves me with room for more adjustments in the future.

Another learning experience.
