MG TD TF 1500 - Broken Clutch Linkage Rod
I snapped the clutch linkage rod at the threads, lost clutch. Crawled underneath, took a nut and threaded it over the break. Worked well enough to get me home. I have a 52 MGTD with the Ford T-9 transmission conversion. I'm going to go with the adjustable clutch linkage rod available through Moss. Every diagram I look at illustrates two rods, or one rod and a cable, going to the shift lever on the transmission. I only had the original clutch linkage rod that was threaded on one end only. Are there supposed to be two rods connecting at the pedal and to the transmission shift lever? Dumb question perhaps, but there it is. Any input is appreciated. Thank you. |

Search archives: Clutch linkage. Numerous links there. Or: http://www.ttalk.info/ClutchLinkageFix.pdf That explains why your perfectly original rod broke. George |

Robert - In the section of TTalk regarding the clutch rods, there is also an article that I wrote about the pedal stop bolt. Without the stop bolt, the clutch rod can travel further than it should and will cause the problem that you have experienced. I would suggest installing a stop bolt and adjusting it before you do the other modifications - once the stop bolt is installed, you may not need to do anything further. Cheers - Dave |

Declan Burns has engineered an improved solution. But it must be shipped from Germany. It is built for the eternity. |
