MG TD TF 1500 - Cam Sprocket Removal
'54 TF XPAG. Full breakdown and making good progress until... Have the crank sprocket moving but not the slightest budge in the cam sprocket. Any tricks to getting this thing off? There's not enough room between the chain and the back plate to get my puller on it and afraid of damaging it if I go too hard with the BFH! |

The cam and crank sprockets have to come off together. I use two thin levers or screwdrivers behind the cam sprocket, and then move each sprocket forward a little bit until they both come off. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thanks Tom. I've been trying to do just that and have the crank sprocket loose. Just can't budge the cam sprocket. Does heat help? |

Cut two hardwood tapered wedges, insert them 180 degrees opposed under the sprocket, hammer each alternative wedge driving them under the sprocket. An old bushies trick when you dont have a puller or room to use one. Graeme |

Thanks Graeme. First thing on the agenda tomorrow. |

Decided that I couldn't wait until tomorrow. Success! Makes for a big accomplishment for the day. Tomorrow the cam and crank are coming out! |
