MG TD TF 1500 - Car Lists, TD & TF on Ttalk

The latest TDList and TFList are up on Ttalk.
But a bit of history, first.
On my WebSite Ttalk.info's home page (http://www.ttalk.info) you can see that I started Ttalk on February 10, 2005. Ttalk made itself known in this UKBBS on Feb. 12th, 2005.

I didn't know George Merson on March 23, 2005. The first copy of the Merson TD list was up on this BB on March 28, 2005. George's favored database software was WordPerfect. Truly, it has been a labor of love for 15 years to convert it into a htm file to turn it into a universal webpage.
Much as I hate to say it, George Merson has retired from compiling information about TDs. He sold his car in 2016, but kept up his interest. His last TDList was put together in September, 2019.
I am now looking for an enthusiast to continue the TD list as an Excel spreadsheet. Anyone who is interested, please contact me at my email address shown above.

Jeff Payne granted permission for me to publish his TF List on April 10, 2005. Jeff continued the list until three years ago when the TFList was taken over by Rick Taylor. The TFList has been maintained in an Excel format since day1.

So, these car lists have been here for just about Ttalk's entire 15 years.

The lists can be seen via http://www.ttalk.info/car_lists.htm Please be sure to refresh your browser before viewing car_lists, or either of the lists.
Cheers, Bud

Bud, as you and I discussed some time ago, I resurrected Gordon Larson database. I call it the T Numbers Database. I Added more information and I have been adding to it from owners input and public records. It's just a hobby and free of any encumbrances. It was not created to replace or compete with any other list. Unfortunately, I can not upload a copy here but you and others can see it at this Dropbox address:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5zdt7tbhe1yfsjc/T%20Numbers%20database.xls?dl=0

If you are interested in putting it on your site let me know. If anyone would like to add or modify existing information let me know as well.

Bud - good for you for working to continue this. It ain't easy - I tried to start a listing of the 1710 TD/C or mark II cars, and got a tepid response...

When someone takes it over, I can offer corrections to quite a few Mark II and "Mark II" cars that are actually TD2 cars.

One of these days, someone needs to combine the many lists out there and create a group to maintain it collectively. The TABC group has a list of TCs that is actively maintained by a member of that group. It includes (with permission) the list started by TC Motoring Guild in the early 1960's. There are over 22,500 TA, TB and TC cars currently listed. There have been a couple times the data was copied without permission, nothing you can do about that I guess, but seems it would be easier to just coordinate efforts than to pirate info! I agree though, it's a lot of work.
Steve Simmons

How are you guys getting notified of who owns what car?
Christopher Couper

Chris, the T Numbers database has the owner listed if known. The owners are identified by their submission or from public records.

Tim
Timothy Burchfield

Curious, what do you mean by Public records? There are no DMV records that are public and I've never seen any other source for vehicle owner information. The TABC list relies solely on information supplied by the vehicle owners, and also notes cars that are discovered to still exist through auction sites, etc but there is no owner information available from those sources.
Steve Simmons

Perhaps it's time for Class 2 of the history lesson. That which I'm now referring to as the TDList has been called the Merson TD List for the past 15 years. It is a list that was begun and continued by George Merson from prior to March 23, 2005 until I took the name off on February 27, 2020. The list has belonged to George Merson all of this time. It does not belong to me, the owner of Ttalk.info, where I have been publishing the list for the convenience of MG enthusiasts, especially those who visit this UKBBS. If you have questions about George's method's for finding the information about the 3,046 TDs on the list, ask George. A link to his email is on http://www.ttalk.info/car_lists.htm .

That which I'm calling the TFList was started by Jeff Payne sometime before April 10, 2005 when I began posting it on Ttalk as the Payne List, or something similar to that. Jeff provided periodic updates until March 11, 2014. About three years later, February 16, 2017, Rick Taylor picked up the list, "...updating Jeff's list with his permission". The list continued to be called the Payne List until last week, when I decided to just use the generic name, TFList. It is being posted on Ttalk for your convenience. IMHO, it belongs to Rick Taylor. An email link to Rick is on http://www.ttalk.info/car_lists.htm . Maybe he can give you the background information on the 1,437 (or, is it 1,436) TFs on his list. Bud

Funny, My TF (8353) was on Jeffs list, now it's nowhere to be found, I know he had it on his list as we communicated 3 or 4 times about updating my information. Any Clues? PJ
PJ Jennings

It's there right now, PJ. Something about 654BLT 12-17-54 . Did you refresh your browser? Bud
Bud Krueger

Thanks Bud, for some reason I'm not picking it up, since computers don't mess up, it must be me! lol PJ
PJ Jennings

My question was actually directed to Timothy, not you Bud! Yet another list out there. For T-Types there must be at least half a dozen of them. a couple early car lists and a few late ones. Then there are the MGA and MGB lists, the pre-war lists, the SVW list, etc.
Steve Simmons

Steve, Tim's list is one that is unique. It is a follow-up on a list that the late Gordan Lawson started. As some of us recall, Gordan was a unique, highly talented artist among us. He became intrigued by the history of Body Numbers and began collecting them. He put a lot of energy into his work. His sudden passing was a shock to all of us.
Tim's TD had no Body Number Plate and he was working with Gordan to try to fill in the blanks. Tim took it upon himself to try to salvage Gordan's work. That's where his multi-Car-Type list has come from. Gathering Body Numbers would pretty well have to be done via contact with the owners of the cars. I've never such data listed by any 'official' body, e.g., M.G. Car Club.

R.I.P. Gordan. Bud
Bud Krueger

Thank you Bud. You are correct.

Tim
Timothy Burchfield

Just emailed Jeff asking for a new list, I'm getting TF numbers up to 3864 and no higher. Hope he's up to the task. Web page, exel download makes no difference, I'm only getting up to TF3864!PJ
PJ Jennings

Steve, I am curious as to how the TABC Group can have over 22,500 cars listed as total production amounted to about 13,382 T A's B's and C's.
M Magilton

PJ, it's unlikely that Jeff would have the latest list. Are sure that you have refreshed your browser? TF 3864 isn't even on the list. Are you looking at the TFLists that are clickable on the car-lists http://www.ttalk.info/car_lists.htm ? Bud
Bud Krueger

PJ, I've sent you an email with copies of the TFList files. Try them. Bud
Bud Krueger

Well there's a typo if I've ever seen one. I should have said over 2,250 entries, not 22,500. The typo is on the list itself so apparently I'm great at copy and paste but not so good at proof-reading.

Kind of like how of the original 33 MG K3's, 333 still exist. :)
Steve Simmons

Bud, Thank you, I also got a list from Tim Burchfield with my car listed. Thanks Tim! PJ
PJ Jennings

So, PJ, did you get to open the TFList and see the listing for your TF? Bud
Bud Krueger

Okay, I give up. To many of you the TD List is still the Merson List. How dare I to rename it as a generic 'TDList'. If you go to Ttalk.info/car_lists.htm you'll see that it can be viewed as a webpage at Ttalk.info/MersonTDList.htm, or in its base form at Ttalk.info/MersonTDList.xls.
Just be certain to refresh your browser.
While I was at it, I have updated the Merson List to include a number of additions that I've recently run into.
Many of you still refer to the TF List as the Payne List. That's even though it's been handled by Rick Taylor for the past three years. Drop me a note if you think I should return TFList to PayneTFList. My email is shown above. Or, click on Bud in Ttalk.info/Car_lists.htm . Bud

Bud Krueger

Bud,I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, but yes I did receive your email about the updated TF list! Thank you for taking the time to do that! Stay safe and for now, stay away from people, were too old for this virus stuff! PJ
PJ Jennings

Bud, I don't know if this is on your list but I've been given permission to post it.

Put it on last night, Jud. Updated all that have shown up since last update. Will be contacting Tom Lange to correct MKII entries. Being self-prisoned , thanks to Coronavirus, have lots of time to do computer things. Bud
Bud Krueger

Jud, I just checked the MGCC records and found the correct Engine # for Peter DeJong's Car.#TD10879,
It was shown as 1127, but the missing digit is a 1. The original Engine No. is 11271. I'll change the MersonTDList as soon as I get the chance. Bud
Bud Krueger

Thanks. Stay well. Jud
